2009 HHR parked as usual in home garage. Next morning wife attempts to go to work
but can't move shifter out of park. Internet research shows same or similar problems with 2006 - 2009 Cobalts and HHRs. Visit to dealer service department results in sev eral suggested remedies. Gear shift still won't budge. AAA tows HHR to dealer. Service tech shows computer warranty listings for powertrain and transmission repairs.
Service department tells me a gear shift assembly fits an in-between category and will not qualify for powertrain/transmission warranty status. Part costs $169. Labor is $280. You-tube repair video shows removed HHR gear shift assembly exposing cheap plastic rollers, contact levers, and other movable parts. It's no wonder so many gearshift related problems keep being posted on the internet. Bottom line- After having purchased 9 of my last 10 vehicles from this dealer (Ed Bozarth Chevolet Topeka) this will be the last Chevy/GM product I buy. -Terry in Tecumseh KS
