This a common problem with the evaporative emissions control system.
Chevy keeps claiming it's a bad gas cap, but I replaced it and it didn't help. Yet they still tell me it's the gas cap.
There were enough problems with this exact same problem with the Toyota Corolla that Toyota was sued and settled, and extended their warranty on this system. The Prizm is the same car, and all the evap emissions pieces are from Toyota, but Toyota won't cover it because it was sold by Chevy.
Chevy just shrugs it off and tries to sell me another gas cap. (BTW, the gas cap is a Toyota part and is much cheaper if you buy it at a Toyota dealer than a Chevy dealer. Chevy wanted $35 and Toyota sold it to me for $6.)
