The AFM is defected and will inevitably fail. It is unnecessary and not worth the fuel cost savings.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado v8, with 74k miles on it. Never missed an oil change or a regular service. Two months ago, the engine started sputtering, upon investigation, the #3 and #6 AFM lifters had failed. My extended warranty covered the $4,000 repair. I had to wait two entire months for the parts to arrive.

Two weeks after getting my truck fixed, the exact same issue occurred. Loss of power, check engine light and traction control light kicks on. I just dropped it back at the shop who is running a diag on it.

Doing some investigation into the matter, and talking with the mechanics at the dealer, there's apparently a MASSIVE AFM lifter failure issue in all GM v8 motors from about 2014 onwards.

If this is true, there has to be some legal recourse, because this is unsatisfactory. Not only is it unsafe, but now you have an unreliable vehicle, that can crap out at any time.

Silverado 1500 LTX 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,500 miles

My 2015 Silverado LTX has an acceleration issue from a dead stop or after turning a corner while driving uphill or under a load. As I press the gas pedal it does not respond as it should. A few seconds later it finally takes off and powers up for good acceleration. This happens everytime I drive in this condition. The service rep told me that until Chevrolet issues a software update to correct this issue I will have to live with it.
