Same as many others I read about. Started off with turns at low speeds. Turning backing up etc.. Power steering quit but I could steer manually - barely! Next time backing into my driveway, the steering wheel jerked out of my hand, radio screen went black and other alerts came on drivers screen, and the engine died before I read alerts. Stuck in the middle of the street but thankfully not busy and started back up in a couple of minutes. It happened again when I changed lanes on the freeway this time. Once again all of the same things happened but this time at freeway speeds. The engine died, alerts on screen, radio screen on and off, power steering quit but thankfully it started immediately. Chevy told me battery cables for $1200.00 but no guarantee.

I have an aftermarket warrantee (Car Shield) but was told battery cables are not covered. GM has a service bulletin PIT5405C from Jan 2017 and that says battery cables / connections. That is OK if that is what it is, but if I have to pay $1200 with no guarantee, then what good is that? Anyway this should be a safety recall whatever the problem is. The same problem was a recall on prior years so why is 2016 different?

Other drivers have ran off the road because of this and God knows what happened to the ones we didn't read about. My wife and I were scared and shaken but survived that time. Afraid to drive the truck so it is basically useless. A lot of money ( $46,000 ) for something I can't use and I really enjoy the truck. GM has to do a recall too many incidents to ignore. Hopefully it doesn't take someone being seriously injured or killed to get a response from GM. Feel free to respond & update. Thanks.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.8L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,600 miles

Purchased this 2016 Chevy Silverado recently. Didn’t have any issues up until 2 months after. When I attempted to make a left turn the steering wheel pulled back right - I had no control of the steering wheel! All the electrical system shut down for a few seconds. The radio & everything shut off then came back on with some warning message. This has happened about 3-4 times already. Luckily I’ve been going at slow speed rate when it’s happened.

I called my local dealerships to see if there had been any recalls & no! Then I contacted GM directly to ask if there hadn’t been any issues or complaints with steering. They acted as if they never heard of this problem said that it was actually a first. I brought up all the complaints I’ve read online then the Rep stayed quiet for a few seconds!

Love this truck but I also obviously love my family & I fear now them riding on it if it ain’t safe. Pissed off since manufacturer warranty is out. Seems like there is plenty having the same issue! GM needs to take responsibility as I seen that there has been recalls with this same issue for older year models. smh

I’m seriously considering filing a lawsuit.

Silverado 1500 4.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

Driving down the road and the steering went out on a corner. The only reason I didn't crash was that I was strong enough to force the wheel. Someone is going to get killed from this issue. GM knows of the issue in other years, says that this truck is not part of the recall?????? They have a much bigger issue that they know!

Silverado 1500

We have 50,000 highway miles on the truck. The power steering went out without any warning. Dealership says it is not a drive train issue and not under warranty. We have had nothing but trouble with this truck.
