My 2019 Silverado RST radio went to a black screen and wont work, this also has affected all my USB phone ports as they dont work either. Local Chevy dealer wont do anything for this issue since I have no warranty .

Silverado 1500 LT 2.7L Turbo

The truck has had the battery die a few times over the past couple weeks for no apparent reason. Then we let it sit for a week and go to start it and all of our warning lights come on and lots of warnings start flashing across the screen stating reduced engine output, etc. The truck won't start. We hook it up to my husbands work van to charge the battery (per the request of the dealer) and it finally starts, but when it starts, the entire instrument cluster was out. We couldn't see anything. We let it sit overnight and started it again the next day and still nothing on the instrument cluster. The dealer sent a tow to pick it up. The look it over and can't find anything wrong with it. They disconnect the battery, reconnect the battery and now say it's fine. They want to charge us a fee because they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck, but obviously something was wrong or this wouldn't have happened.

This has been an ongoing issue with the infotainment system almost ever since I bought the truck September 2019. When you start the truck sometimes the radio screen freezes and and the volume cannot be adjusted up or down. Sometimes the screen freezes with the radio volume at a high level and nothing can be done until you shut off the truck and walk away. Sometimes at startup the screen is black with no sound at all. Sometimes the screen is frozen but you can adjust the volume. Sometimes the screen is frozen and after a few minutes the entire unit powers down and the entire system restarts and comes back fully normal.

I have been to the dealer where I purchased the truck maybe 5 or 6 times over the course of a few months. Each time needing to leave it there for a day or two for them to try various things. They have tried updating the software, they have gotten GM corporate involved and done a complete walk through with them to attempt to fix it, they even went as far as to replace the entire infotainment system once. But no matter what they have done NOTHING works to fix it. At a certain point I was simply tired of driving to the dealer and being without a vehicle for days on end. Then Covid hit and I didn't want to deal with the virus and my breathing. But lately the problem seems to be occurring more frequently. This past week it literally froze every single day for a week.

The only saving factor is that once I reach my destination and shut off the truck and walk away it seems to correct itself. Most of the time once I restart the truck and drive again everything works fine. But then the next time I start up I may just have frozen unit all over again.

NO ONE should pay $30,000 for a vehicle and have to deal with this. GM seems to refuse to acknowledge any problems and simply looks the other way. This problem is occurring in both 2019 and 2020 GM vehicles. With that many issues I would think that they would have figured out a final solution by now. HELP!!

Silverado 1500 RST 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 716 miles

716 miles on a new truck and the radio/infonet system died. No camera or any information displayed on the radio screen. The day that the system failed I was driving and could smell burnt wiring and then the system went blank. I took the vehicle to my local dealer for repair only to discover GM doesn't have parts available to make repairs and they have no idea when they will have them in stock. Completely unacceptable on a 50k vehicle or on any vehicle for that matter. Kudos to the dealer for giving me the keys to a new truck to drive while mine is sitting in the shop. Definitely a quality control issue going on at GM these days!
