This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The issue described in this report below could lead to engine failure causing the vehicle to stop suddenly or crash. The other issue could be a large quantity of oil spilt on the Highway. This needs to be a recall. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10200186-9999.pdf
Need to replace the oil cooler line assy, the rubber hose seperated from the metal tubing, causing a lost of 6 qts of oil on the roadway. I understand thers is a recall in Canada and Alaska, not here in states
While operating my vehicle at normal capacity the engine lost power and jolted very hard and the vehicle began shaking. I heard knocking noises coming from within the engine. The truck only has 68k highway miles on it with regular maintenance done by the dealer. My 2010 version of this truck lasted longer than this one. Gm is telling me I need a $7800 dollar repair that I am on the arm for. There was nothing out of the ordinary that could have caused this. I am aware of others having the same problem. It would not be safe if I was traveling faster.
My Truck has less than 35,000 miles and I've had Transmission issues. I've taken it to the Dealership and they don't have an answer to the problem other than changing the transmission fluid as that has resolved issues on other trucks. When I took it in, I would shift it out of park to drive it jerks, when I shift from drive to reverse, it jerks, when I shift from reverse back to drive it jerks. When I'm slowing down at a stop sign or stop light it shifts weird. I've been getting on a busy highway and accelerated and it downshifted so hard and kind of stalled, I swear took it at least 5 seconds to catch up and gain speed. I don't want to be on the HWY and my truck stall because no one knows what's going on or how to fix it.
Noticeable ticking noise started coming form the engine, upon further inspection it was the lifters that was causing the noise. DFM, AFM the truck is out of warranty at 76,000 mi. So i got a second opinion from another shop and got it fixed through them, not the dealer. My shop re surfaced the Heads and went a few steps further than the dealer would have done.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the warning message "low oil turn off vehicle" had displayed. The vehicle was parked and upon inspection it was discovered that no engine oil was present on the engine oil dipstick and there was an oil leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine oil cooler line crimp had detached. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000
Dashboard and display screen doesn't shut off when key had been removed from the ignition. Constant freezing, call dropping and sound boost at random moments. Ticking sound when barely touching the gas. Hard shifts. Bluetooth connects and disconnects constantly. If GM released a defective vehicle, in which they are aware of the problems should be fixed. Not only for me but for the tons of thousands filing known major problems as well.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact jumped the battery and was able to restart the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while reversing, the brake pedal was depressed but went all the way to the floorboard and hesitated to respond. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred three times. The contact stated that the third time the failure occurred, he jumpstarted the vehicle, and the vehicle restarted; however, the engine seized. The contact stated that the trailer brake warning light and several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact turned off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle and was able to drive the vehicle at slow speeds. The contact charged the battery overnight and was able to start and drive the vehicle the next day. The contact also stated that the Parking brake was electronic and made it impossible to stop the vehicle in the event the battery failed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,800.
My truck has a vibration when going down the highway at speeds of 70 mph. The dealer has done a transmission flush but still have the same issue. I am afraid that the driveshaft or the transmission may lock up while we are on the highway with the family.
Started to drive my truck this morning and it was driving very rough. Dashboard warning lights came on; SERVICE PARKING BRAKE, SERVICE ESC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT, PARKING BRAKE ON INDICATOR. None of this was happening yesterday. It just happened this morning. This truck only has 7,100 miles on it.
Thousands of these vehicles have Engine Lifter failure problems at early mileage and if your vehicle is out of warranty you have to pay. These are vehicles with the AFM 5.3 and many are failing. This is a well known problem and should be recalled soon. If your engine fails on the highway it can be extremely dangerous.
On cold starts when approximately 2nd gear shifts around 20mph the truck feels like it-??s slipping the gear and losing power. Has happened every time and there-??s under 5000 miles on vehicle
The transmission will sometimes hesitate/lag for a few seconds when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. This seems to occur only cold starts where the vehicle has sat for a long period, such as overnight. On the most recent occurrence, I was stopped at a stop sign on my road and began to turn left (northbound) on to the busy highway. While turning from the stop sign on to the highway, the vehicle vehicle hesitated mid-shift and I lost acceleration. After a few seconds, a loud clunk was then heard, the truck jerked - throwing me forward, and acceleration was restored. This delay resulted in a near-miss collision as there was an approaching vehicle headed southbound and I was stuck in their lane since my vehicle was not accelerating. Issue reported to Heartland Chevrolet (501 Rte 291, Liberty, MO 64068) to document and investigate the issue. Vehicle taken to dealer next day. After 3 days of service, the dealer service team could not reproduce the issue and escalated to regional GM engineer (Service Manager called him directly.). Engineer stated that hesitation is normal. Still an on-going issue; work around has been to let the vehicle idle longer before driving on a cold start. Sometimes you can "feel" the hesitation and know when to let off the gas pedal few a few seconds until the shift in to 2nd to avoid the vehicle throwing you forward, being able to have better "control" of the hesitation issue.
The "service brake system" and "service ESC" lights came on, along with the service engine light and rough idle, resisted roll (slight brake applied, perhaps?) and per the dealer, no code was stored and there is no fix. Bulletin pit5728B says different and not to drive the vehicle until fixed. I am refusing to accept my vehicle back until fixed as of 27 Apr 2021. We were merging onto a highway from a sideroad & the gauges started going crazy the truck died. Wouldn't restart. Luckily we were able to get off of highway & onto shoulder. Dealership has had truck since then. Today is 4/21/21.
A current recall for this issue stands in cananda and Alaska. The eoc engine cooling lines leak oil. The eoc clamp and/or assembly loosens causing a sever oil leak. More common in colder climate areas. Leak accrues at all times, when running or not.
Truck will rev high and not move for 2 or 3 seconds when accelerating after stopping at redl lght then slam into first gear and lurch forward abruptly. The motor mounts are damaged from doing this over and over again. Engine has 44000 miles is serviced on time every time and not abused.
