The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 28 mph and approaching a red light, the vehicle would not stop or slow down when applying the brakes. The contact stated that the vehicle drove through a busy intersection nearly crashing into two oncoming vehicles. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by shifting into park. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the brake lines under were corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 107,000. Updated 2/27/14 the consumer stated the main front and back brake system lines coming from the master cylinder were corroded and had ruptured. The consumer indicated that the car had been garage kept and was in great condition. The vehicle was repaired. The consumer saved all removed lines for investigation.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 00V345000 (service brakes, hydraulic foundation components: Hoses, lines, piping/fittings) but the braking system failed after repairs. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was confirmed that the same failure as described in the recall had occurred. The vehicle was not repaired and the dealer advised that they would not be able to make repairs under the recall a second time. The failure mileage was 205,000 and the current mileage was 207,000. Updated 1/20/12 the consumer stated the ABS independently activated at a speed of less than 10 mph. The dealer informed the consumer the problem was corrected in 2007. However, the problem has returned. The consumer was informed not to replace the sensors, only clean them. Updated 02/01/12

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that there was excessive corrosion on the frame. The contact also mentioned that due to the corrosion, the brake lines failed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that all of the brake lines needed to replaceddue to corrosion. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 91,000. Also, the emergency brake needed to be replaced. Updated 01/10/12

TL- contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. While attempting to stop the vehicle the contact noticed that the brake pedal had suddenly fell to the floor of the vehicle. After examining the vehicle the contact noticed that the brakes lines on the driver's side of the vehicle were rusted through. There were no prior warnings and the vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 160000.

The contact proceeded through the traffic light. A crash did not occur. The contact stated he experienced the failure seven months prior. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the brake line was replaced. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 155,000.

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. While backing out of the driveway, the contact noticed a large amount of brake fluid leaking from his vehicle. When he inspected the vehicle, he noticed that every time he applied pressure to the brakes, more brake fluid leaked out. No warning lights were illuminated at the time of the failure. He took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was informed that one of the brake lines were leaking. The mechanic repaired the brake line. A couple of days later, while driving 55 mph, the contact applied the brakes and the vehicle failed to stop. He used the emergency brakes to stop the vehicle. The same mechanic stated that a different brake line was leaking and that all of the brake lines were rusted. The brake lines are currently being repaired again. The manufacturer stated that his VIN was not included in the recall. The recall number was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 96,000. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07

Back brakes on my Chevy pick up Silverado 1999 did not have non corrosive brake line and when I had the two rear tires replaced the line cracked apparently due to salt at the bend going into the rear wheel brake cylinders. Due to not having brakes and not wanting to return to dealer I purchased the truck I went to the oakland dealership where I told them to replace both lines as if the one fractured I expected for the other one to go shortly. However they did not replace the line until the brought the lines up to breaking pressure and then fortunately for me the other brake line ruptured. I had to pay for all repairs as my extended warranty did not cover but I argued with the dealer these repairs should have been paid for by GM as the lines did not conform to astm stds and according to the salesman that sold me the vehicle they knew about the brake lines braking and made comment the brake line that goes over the gas tank goes first! I could have been going over the hills to kingwood West Virginia when I lost braking and I fell it would have killed me and I feel all Chevy trucks around my year model should be recalled that are in areas with winter salt use. I am a registered safety consultant with NHTSA primarily motorcycles.

: the contact stated that the vehicle had trouble stopping when driven 15 mph. The hydraulic brakes would depress to the ground when pressure was applied under normal braking. The vehicle's emergency brake was applied to help stop the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a fluid squirted over the driver side rear wheel, and shock absorber. Chunks of rust were also observed where the brakeline fractured which was hooked to the back axle. The vehicle was driven home. The manufacturer was contact on 06/29/06 who determined that there was no recall or remedy. The dealer has yet to be contacted. There was no warning prior to the incident. The incident occurred on a dry and flat surface. All 5 brake lines connected to the ABS unit were badly rusted. Updated 07/25/06.

While driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado applied the brake a little quicker than normal and felt the pedal go to the floor. As I started to press on the brake the brake line ruptured and caused lack of pressure and no fluid to engage the calipers and start the braking action. I quickly avoided hitting the car in front of me and quickly diverted to the shoulder of the highway were I met the jersey wall barrier and produced cosmetic damage to the vehicle. According to a Chevrolet dealership I have to replace all of the brake lines because of excessive wear, I purchased the vehicle 5 months ago from a different dealership within the local area. My cost is almost half of what I paid for the vehicle, and that is just for the brake lines, not to include the damage I received to the side of my vehicle. I have been informed from the service advisor that this is not a common maintenance aspect, however it could happen and this leaves any driver the inability to have control of braking power of their vehicle. At this time I have not authorized repairs because of the overwhelming cost to replace the brake lines. They do need to be replaced and I am currently seeking additional cost estimates from other various maintenance facilities to correct this repair.

: the contact stated while driving at 5mph, the brake pedal was depressed. After the pedal was depressed, the pedal went to the floor. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The brake fluid line rusted and fractured. The vehicle was driven to the local dealership for additional inspection and repairs.

Contact stated the brake lines was corroded. This caused the brake fluid to leak out, and while driving there was brake failure. The service dealer replaced the brake lines. The service dealer did not tell him why the brake lines corroded. The manufacturer has been contacted, informing them of the problem with the vehicle.

The contact stated his brakes pulsated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop for inspection. The repair shop tested the brakes and the brake lines busted in two separate places. The repair shop discovered extreme corrosion on the brake lines. As a result, the brake lines were replaced, but the problem with the pulsation was not corrected. The contact has now received NHTSA recall 05V379000 concerning anti lock brakes, but not on the brake lines.

I bought this truck in Ohio for my wife [xxx], she reported that the ABS brake would simply not work on accasion and the pedal would go straight to the floor.we took the vehicle in to the dealer but he could not find the problem. At lows speeds I was able to reproduce the problem. Dealers down here say the sensor is bad. We pulled the fuse to disable the brakes when the vehicle was new because a delphi engineer told me that would at least keep the brakes working. I have 58000 miles on my truck and we have replaced the calipers the rotors and even some of the brake lines have rusted rupturing and causing a loss of brakes. The power steering hose line rusted at the cooler radiator.. yesterday the Chevy dealer in gainseville called me to the shop to see how the frame is being eaten away, I believe the vehicle either wasn't proberly prepared when built or the protective paints and coating were deffective. The records at jim douglas chevolet evidence the expenses we have incuured to keep the truck operational. The ABS module and the loss of break lines seem to relflect extemely poor metal coorosion resistance, even both my tailgate cable rusted and broke.each time I have taken in to the Chevy dealer for repair they are amazed at the corrosion problems. Even the tire jack in the passenger compartment was rusted and it was never used. The screws inside the center console were rusted. I spent between $2500 and $3000 in just the brake problem and that is without trying to fix the defective sensor module. I assure absent a forced recall I suspect GM will not fix this problem. GM conumer relatios suggested I get a recall number and maybe they could be of further assistance. Thus I am send you my complaint. Emergency brake has been adjusted 4-5 times. When applied, brake holds vehicle, but pedal goes to the floor. Also, dealer replaced brake pads. Daytime running bulb blew out after it had just been replaced. Rear window assembly was leaking, power window was slow going up. Transfer case was replaced due to a clunk noise, transaxle shaft replaced due to leaking. Front brake hose experienced an abrasion. Vehicle was leaning, dealer adjusted front torsion bar.
