The transmission hesitates excessively while driving. Dealer advised consumer that a technical service bulletin was issued by the manufacturer regarding the issue, but the manufacturer states the condition is normal. Consumer is very concerned about the safety hazard of the transmission hesitating while in traffic.
While traveling 70 mph and without any indication, the transmission disengaged and lost all power. Consumer pulled vehicle over. Vehicle was towed to dealership. Consumer states; repaired three times, and breaks down each time.
When accelerating from a stop vehicle just stopped moving in drive, the engine was still running but the consumer had no control of the accelerator pedal nor did any indicator lights illuminated on the dashboard, a 4 speed automatic and only 2nd and 3rd gear would operate, vehicle finally coasted to a stop and the consumer managed to play around with gears well enough to get the vehicle home. Problem was due to gears split which grinded all the teeth. Chevrolet was contacted.
I have had problems with this vehicle since I bought it. My brakes habitually fail if I hit a bump while braking, and I have been told by both the dealer and the manufacturer that my brakes are operating within the normal specs for this vehicle and the driving conditions in my area. They do nothing to fix the problem. I use my personal vehicle to respond to fires and medical emergencies, and am concerned that I will have an accident en route to help someone. Also, my automatic transmission occasionally goes into neutral while stopped in traffic, or will not engage upon putting it in 'drive', but the dealership is unable to duplicte the problem, so they say they can't fix it. My fuel pump has failed and been replaced more than once. My windshield wipers repeatedly fail on the passenger side.

Engine check light went on day after purchase. Saturday. Returned to dealer on Monday for checkup. Dealer said they couldn't reproduce the problem. Check engine light went on 08/10/2000. Returned to dealer. This time they checked the national computer and found that the knock sensors were overtorqued at the factory and replaced them. Why didn't they check the national computer when they had the truck the first time? started truck up in am 11/13-/2000 oil light came on. Checked oil, was full. Started truck up again, thought maybe guage was incorrect. Still no oil pressure. They towed truck in and replaced oil pump. The mileage was only 4513. I wanted engine replace, but they said there was no damage. Gas pedal sticking at 23550 miles. Returned truck to dealer. They installed new throttle body.also oil filler tube was not installed correctly. Oil was leaking from tube. They fixed this also.at 26581 miles engine started to have valve noise on cold startup. Returned to dealer. They said nothing was wrong. On 12/05/2001 returned truck due to tapping noise. This time they said it was due to castrol oil filter. They changed oil and put on PF59 filter. Thought problem was fixed. Engine still has lift noise on cold startup. Also complained of transmission double shifting. Dealer can't find anything wrong. This truck has been in the shop so many times they should extend the warranty to 10 years, but I know they are afraid to do that.
Consumer was in traffic and without prior warning heard a thumping noise coming from front end of vehicle. Then, vehicle shutoff. Vehicle was towed. Dealership mechanic told consumer that he needed to replace transmission.
Well first off 1: vibrations at speeds of 40+ the front end feels like it going to fall apart the sterring wheel shakes violently when slowing as the the vibrating is going on, you have to come to a complete stop and put it park and then proceed and it might go away, it's like the driveline or shaft gets out of balance, and the brake barley work its like they are fighting against you putting pressure on them. #2: when you hit a bump with brakes applied the peddal starts pumping back and forth and you can barely stop. #3: front left suspension squeaks and rattles when making a right or left turn its like your shifting the weight and something is looose. #4: transmission clunks when putting into gear from park or into reverse almost as if a U-joint was bad but noise comes from tranny and driveshaft. And when coming to a stop you can feel the tranny down shifting like its just dropping out of gear the whole truck rocks. Well Chevy need to do something before someone dies, , after reading the previous complaints I thought I just had a lemon but I see I'm not alone I took the trk to the dealer for the vibration and was told no problem existed but the vibration went away for awhile do they know something and just are told be quiet. Intermittently when accelerating or decelerating vehicle will jerk violently. Dealer has inspected vehicle and could not correct problem. Consumer states problem is now continous with a loud slapping noise.
Driving truck and transmission started to slip, then trans heated up to 300 degrees. Smoke came from trans and burnt smell. Truck only had 6500 mileage on it. Truck was a 2500 hd with hd auto trans and snowplow prep package. Dealer replaced trans with new trans, but made it sound like it was my fault. Unhappy with dealer response to problem on this new truck.
The 2000 Silverado has to be a blunder by General Motors. The truck has bad tires, the engine has used oil since day one. The engine has a deep knocking noise in the lower part and a tapping noise in the upper part. The engine has a miss at idle and no matter how much diagnostic equipment you hook up to the truck you can't find the reason, but after checking I have found that all the 99 and 2000 silerado's with the 5.3 have had a strange miss/vibration. There are so many more problems that I can't explain them all within this comment section.. note the truck only has 8,592 miles. General Motors has got a major problem with these trucks. GM trucks have really gone down hill.GM customers need to be able to get ahold of some upper level management to discuss their problems and address their concerns on timely manner. On 09/27/2000 I was slowing down for a dip, with my foot on the brake. As I crossed the hit the dip and/or just after the dip, I heard a noise come from the left front drivers side of truck. At the same time the left front of truck dropped a little. I was still rolling and didn't think anything was wrong, so I rolled on about 100 ft. To a right curve. When I tried to turn the vehicle it only turned from a 2 oclock position to a 4 oclock position. Truck went into ditch, and stopped on the other side. The front wheel was broken off with lug nuts, studs, and other pieces of metal still in the left front tire under the truck. When the wrecker came, I got into the truck to try to guide it as they pulled it out. I put my foot on the brakes before I tried to start the truck, and there was no brake pressure at all. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. The tie rod had snapped at the knuckle, but 80 % was shine and about 20% was tarnished and grease looing like the tie rod had been cracked a long time. On your search engine site for recalls the only 3500 is listed as 3500hd. In the year 2000 Chevrolet didn't make a 3500hd. They only made 3500's that had some heavy duty equipment on them, such as heavy duty transmission, etc.
When in overdrive gear at approximately 45 mph and going up a grade or tiny hill, vibration would occur, coming from drivetrain. Consumer could feel it through floor. Dealer reprogrammed PCM, but defect still occurred.
When driving under normal conditions at highway speed transmission will stop pulling. To regain transmission vehicle had to be placed into neutral while driving. Dealer has been contacted.
When accelerating gently truck has a flatness and stalls out. Then, there is a vibration to it. Was told by dealer that there is a problem with these 5.3 voltec engines and transmission combination.
