Every time the weather is bad, mainly rain, the service engine soon light flashes, and the truck jumps. Sometimes fuel injector cleaner will help, and 2 times the distributor has been damaged. The incident date was the first time the distributor went out, and stranded me in the middle of an intersection, no accidents thankfully. The second time was April 20,2003 after warranty on the first was over.

Engine has a loud knocking noise since day one. Reported problem to Chevrolet dealership and was told that the pistons are "slapping" inside the cylinder walls and that this was a known problem from Chevrolet. New pistons will not be available until December 2001. Changed oil and found metal fragments in the oil that were stuck to the magnetic oil bolt. Noise problem is getting louder each week. Dealer rep called and explained the problem to me directly.

Reported a loud knocking noise when you crank up the engine since I first bought truck. Reported problem to dealer and was told the pistons are "slapping" inside the cylinder walls due to a known problem that Chevrolet already knows about it and replacement pistons would be available by December. Engine is getting louder by the day and found broken metal fragments when oil was changed. Waiting on dealer to respond to this issue and requesting engine be replacement now.

Silverado 2500 4WD Diesel

  • Automatic transmission

After only having this new truck for 2 days the transmission was taken out of it due to a ticking noise in the engine. The mechanic was advised by GM to take out the transmission and replace a flywheel. After 2 weeks of waiting for a part I picked up my truck. The next day the noise was back. I have had 2 GM reps listen to the noise. The secound rep told me that it was "entrained gasses" and that there was nothing they could do about it. I did not purchase this truck making the noise and do not want it anymore after the transmission has been taken out.
