Speedometer does not show the right speed which the vehicle is traveling. At almost standstill speeds is shows 15 mph. At higher speeds the speedometer shows speeds that are much higher than those being driven by the vehicle. I cannot trust this gauge any longer. Will be contacting GM to request a fix. Car has only 25,000 miles.

At about 76,000 miles my 2005 Chevy Silverado started having speedometer issues. Then all of a sudden it was working fine for about another 7,000 miles. And now over 80,000 miles it is stuck at 120 mph. GM has recalled 2003 & 2004 models with this same known issue and has used the same clusters for 2005, but does not have a recall.

Air blows cold on driver side and extremely hot on drivers side with dual controls both set to cool. Seems to be a very common problem according to many people on the following website and unable to be fixed by dealers. autoforum.classifieds1000.com/Chevrolet-silverado_1500_pickup/dual_ac_blows_cold_air_on_passenger_but_hot_on_driver.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. I kept smelling an odor of something burning but could not find where it was coming from until recently when my fan motor stopped working. I had been having problems with the switch not working in all positions. I called the dealership to inquire about the price and availability of the switch. The parts dept. Informed me that it was most likely the fan resistor or the plug because they have had several that needed replaced. When I looked under the dash I found what had been causing the smell. The resistor showed signs of being overheated and the wire harness was burnt for approximately 6 inches. This is a fire hazard and it is only a matter of time before someone is either injured or killed due to this defective resistor/plug.

At around 37,000 miles the speedometer started sticking and around 45,000 miles it completely went out and has been stuck at 120 mph ever since. I took it to the Chevy dealership and they told me it would cost around $800 dollars to fix. I called and complained to GM customer service, at which time they did nothing but told me to take it in and get it repair at my expense. I haven't had the money to have it repaired so far so I have been driving without it. I think Chevy should recall the instrument clusters and fix the problem at their own expense.

2005 Silverado 2500 hd speedometer malfunction. Speedometer registers very high speeds (I.e. 80 mph), or no speed at all (I.e. 0 mph) regardless of what speed is actually being driven.

Speedometer fails to register actual speed of driving -- will show 120 when driving 70, 90 mph when driving 30mph, 15 mph when stopped at a light. Makes highway driving hazardous because I am prone to driving slower than traffic. Also concerns about accuracy of the odometer because of this problem.

2005 Chevy 2500hd diesel - the number 2 and number 7 injector wire harness is not mounted properly. It rubs through and puts the truck into what they call "limp mode". it only allows the motor to got up to 2000 RPM. This happened to me twice with my current truck. The second time I was running down interstate I-80 @ 70mph on cruise control. It automatically began downshifting and slowing down. I was lucky a semi wasn't bearing down on me. Go to diesel place or any other blog on Chevy durmax diesels and do a search for no. 2 & 7 wire harness for the second generation diesel (2004.5-2005) - they must have fixed it after that.

I have had my blower fan motor replaced the dealer just replaced my cigarette lighter when they were replacing my recalled speedometer they said the wires were melted to cig assembly, days later my truck burnt to the ground. The cause was the heater resister and fan motor started this fire. I am out a truck the dealer says that's what insurance is for. Big deal I get 75% of my truck's value. This was a 2005 2500hd extended cab truck in excellent condition. Why do we as customers have to put up with these defects and take the loss. We suffer. The question is how many fires have been associated with this year truck and the factories problems. When do we as high paying customers get some help with or struggle to keep what we paid for still working with out being burnt. Tw*

Speedometer gives false readings. This problem is so common with this model year (2005) Chevy/GMC trucks people are selling repair components on ebay, yahoo and other spots on line. Instruction are shared online also. Some 2005S are being repaired by the manufacture depending on the VIN other not, yet they all have the same parts that are known to be bad. 2003 & 2004S have their warranty extended to 7 yrs. 70,000 mile to cover this problem. So far we're lucky no one has been hurt or killed.

2005 Silverado pickup. Heater fan motor resistor melting wires too a point that the wires couldn't be touched without being burned. Warranty expired but problem exists. Told dealership that I thought it was a safety issue. Ie: if combustible materials were to come into contact there would most likely be a fire.

For quite some time, our 2005 Chevrolet Silverado would have an odor and the #5 position on the fan for heater would stop working, then start again. Recently it completely stopped at all levels. We can no longer circulate heat or ac in the vehicle. We checked the blower motor resistor unit, it had melted and also melted the wiring harness up under the dash. We now have to replace both units at great expense to us., not to mention this could have caused a fire...we usually have some grandchildren strapped in car seats...which would have been quite dangerous to them, had it caught on fire. This has been going on for some time, not just the mileage indicated.

Blower for heat/air works intermittently. Dealer said resistor has probably gone bad. I removed the resistor which was all rusted from water (resistor is located in the air supply chamber inside the passenger compartment) and replaced. Problem resurfaced 48 hours later. Returned to dealer who advised there is a service bulletin on this, it's a common problem because the wire harness/connector goes bad due to overheating. GM has a part specific to repair the wire harness connector. Do not have old resistor, wire harness still attached. I have not replaced the wire harness yet as I am trying to get GM to replace. GM is well aware of this design defect and electrical hazard.
