Along with many other people who we've been talking to about this same problem on carspace.com. The crossmember on my Chevy Tracker rusted to shreds due to thin metal and lack of 4 drain holes. The new crossmember that was put on my car has 4 drain holes to allow the water to escape. Some Trackers have drain holes. We spent $1000 getting this fixed when it looks like someone went on a smoke break during an assembly line at the Chevy plant. This is a dangerous mistake that Chevy is blowing off as trivial. Something needs to be done. We take great care of our Tracker and it's in great condition. It was unexpected to put $1000 in to a car that otherwise runs great that shouldn't have even happened in the first place. What I experienced on the road because of this rusted piece of metal giving so quickly was very scary! I could have killed someone going 65 mph down the freeway had I not gotten it in right away. They determined it unsafe to drive until it was replaced and shocked at what they saw under my car! this was a stupid error that needs looked in to. The part needs to be recalled and people compensated.

I noticed within a week when I applied the brakes the nose would dip and the car would steer to the left, it got worse and worse until I would feel like I was losing control of the car, especially on the freeway going 65 mph. I took the car in to tuffy and they said that the crossmember was rusted and told me it was absolutely unsafe to drive. I had it towed to the frame and axel place and they couldn't believe what they saw. They ordered the part and replaced it. I spent over $900 getting it fixed! they let me keep the part and said that I should defiantly follow up on this with a Chevy dealership. I still have the part and a picture of it that can be found on carspace.com. I have been communicating with another person about this same issue but theirs actually broke while driving, fortunately just getting off the freeway before it happened! tuffy told me that if this had broken during freeway driving it would have thrown me into the next lane. This should not have happened.
