We own two 2017 Chevy Volts. Both have two issues: 1) often cruise control does always stay engaged due to brake pedal slipping to a very slight depressed position. 2) shift-to-park- cars will not properly go into park sometimes and thus cannot be turned off. These two issues are clearly manufacturer defects as both cars were bought new and within a month of each other. I will enter this for my other VIN number as well. These have been ongoing issues that we are having to spend money to correct and there are many reports of these being issues, yet there is no recall. We purchased both cars brand new within a month of each other. Both issues have been ongoing and have occured more than once.

When I put the car in park, it says "action required, shift to park" it doesn't recognize that it's already in park... it's a known problem with the shifter and they haven't issues a recall yet. This happens when the vehicle is stationary.

Vehicle has a "shift to park" error message whenever the vehicle is in park. This will not allow me to turn off the vehicle. I noticed this is a problem across the board with generation 2 models and would like to see a recall around this since it's not covered under the warranty. The vehicle when parked cannot be turned off if the computer believes its not in park. I had to start/stop and shift the car in various gears for a few minutes to finally have it recognize it is in park. Many youtube and reddit threads show the issue. Apparently GM is aware of this problem too.

Shift to park issue is present and getting worse. Unable to turn off car when it occurs. As this is common to this model it should be treated as a direct and GM should repair as part of a recall.

My 2017 Chevy Volt is experiencing a "shift to park" malfunction. The car can not be shifted out of park. Before reaching this event, when turning the car off the message "shift to park" appeared on the message screen. This happened on several consecutive days before the car would not shift out of park. These events occurred when the car was parked and stationary.

Shift to park issue. When shifting to park and turning off the vehicle, the message "action required shift to park" appears even though vehicle shifter is in park position and car appears to be in park. Because of message, the car cannot be locked and electronics remain on. This message is intermittent and can be typically cleared by wiggling the shifter while pressing brake, or after turning ignition on/off 1 or more times. This issue appears to be widely known by GM and other customers, but no recall has been issued yet.

The vehicle has a "shift-to-park" issue that is becoming worse. When the car is placed in park and the ignition button depressed to turn off the car, an error light indicates "action required: Shift-to-park." The car will not shut off, the lights remain on, and the doors can not be locked. By playing with the shift lever, sometimes for several minutes, the car finally realizes it is in park.

Volt

After turning off the vehicle an "action required - shift to park" error occurs. The car is already in "park" position. This started a couple of months ago and it gets progressively worse. The car cannot be turned off and dozens of times must be started and gear shifted in different positions until, eventually, will turn off. Many complaints for other gen 2 Volt users as described at:: https://www.sandiegocan.org/2019/11/26/alert-2017-Chevrolet-Volt-shift-to-park-defect/ since this is not a singular event and it is replicated by many users, please make GM recall the vehicle and provide a free fix.

The car will not shift to park and shut off. The shifter is not making contact with the electrical switch that tells the computer it is in the park position. It takes multiple tries to shut the car off. GM needs to issue a recall to replace the shifter for all Volt owners.I took the car to the dealer on 6/27/20 and they replaced a wiring harness which did nothing.

Vehicle will not turn off while in park and a 'shift to park' notice is displayed. Vehicle needs to be shifted in and out of park several times for it to register. Happens intermittently. The manufacturer is aware of the issue and has bulletin # 19-na-206 issued - a recall should be mandatory as the vehicle cannot be left running unattended. It is a violation of California vehicle code 22515(a) no person driving, or in control of, or in charge of, a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand on any highway unattended without first effectively setting the brakes thereon and stopping the motor thereof.
