The main grounding wire passenger-side engine block contact point had corrosion(rust) limiting electrical current flow to the wiring harness. This caused too much current to flow to 2 smaller 16 gauge grounding wires attached to the rear of each Hemi cylinder head to fry. This directly affects the CCN bus communications to the CPU. Any device, module, or sensor attached to the CCN bus can have intermittent behavior. Examples of very bad behavior in my car were: 1. The alarm randomly going off while parked or when driving the car. 2. While parked and the alarm set the Sunroof decided to open up during a rainstorm filling my car with 3 inches of rain. 3. The 300C doesn't use a throttle cable. It utilizes a throttle position sensor that communicates with the CPU over the CCN bus. In my case just touching the gas pedal was the same as pressing the gas pedal to the floor. It's a good thing that when this happened to me there was no traffic on the road.
Imagine having your emergency brake randomly being asserted for no apparent reason.
Since this is CCN 2-wire twisted pair bus communication issue anything that communicates with the CPU can have a random intermittent problem. Since these cars are getting older, I have to think that there are other cars that are or will have similar issues. Pray to God that your throttle doesn't stick wide open like mine did. I had to keep my foot buried on the brake while I was screaming down the road until I was able to turn off the ignition. Have fun coming to a stop or driving home after that happens. Formally I was an i2c bus communications (2 wire bus) expert at both Intel Corp and Cisco Systems. I know what I am talking about.
Today I talked with a Bremerton Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep technical service representative about this issue. The bottom line is it is over $3000(probably closer to $4000) to fix this very dangerous problem. I loved driving my 2005 300C. It still looks almost new. Is my car now totaled because of a little bit of rust corrosion at the engine block? 10 hours to do the repair. Wire harness roughly $1500.
There may have been somebody somewhere that is DEAD because of this factory defect and no one is the wiser. Why is this issue NOT a factory recall issue? How many people have to be injured before there is awareness? I had heard that this particular issue was a recall for different years of the 300C. So far I have not found a recall for this issue anywhere. If anyone does know of a recall, please let me know. I am going to try and see if there is a way to have the factory fix this very dangerous situation.
LIGHTS STILL FLICKERING AFTER OVER $600.00 WORTH WORK, AFRAID THE STABILITY LIGHT WILL COME ON AGAIN MEANING ANOTHER TRIP TO THE DEALER. THE PROBLEM IS ONLY NOTICED AT NIGHT WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON, BOTH FLICKER LIKE CRAZY.
the 300c is a great car but mine has a little issue that my dealer isn't fixing, even had a officer slim jim my door open to get my youngest nephew out. the car locks itself like its a game, why I call her Christine (my sister called her that first and it stuck), its a real pain in the ass. The flober been replaced and new batteries twice and it still does it today. my brother in law was laughing when I was unlocking her and as soon as I unlock her she locks back up as I pull on the door handle. I brought it used with 83k and that is the only issue so far and I had a 2006 Cadillac DTS that been in and out of the shop 25 plus times during the 2 years I own it. so I know a bad car when I see one lol.
Chrysler is using crappy wiring harness. A $40,000 car and wiring brakes at the drivers door. A $1500. fix is not acceptable. You heard of crappy wiring in the 60's not 2005.
When the rear defroster was turned on all radio stations would go to static. The module was replaced but did not cure the problem, instead a new rear window was needed to correct the problem,because the defroster and antenna are located in the rear windshield.
