CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 is the worst year for PT Cruiser engine complaints. Having an engine light on is annoying, but it's the complaints about the engine shutting-off while driving that really have us concerned.

oil leak - crankshaft thrust bearing issue

I read online that others have had this problem and that Chrysler is aware of it. I heard some people do a fix only to find out the crankshaft has play in it and need more repairs. We were quoted $1750 plus possibly more based on the bearings they find that might also need to be replaced. Some of the posts talk about a short block which I understand is like a re-manufactured engine which would be even more. This car only has 45002 miles on it by my brother-in-laws Dad and my sister and brother-in-law because they got the car after the death of his father.
