The spare tire carriers do not release the tire. This can be dangerous on the highway when trying to change a tire. The cable releases but the tire stays up. You have to lay on the ground get your legs under the car while it is jacked up and with try to kick the tire loose. Very dangerous! we have a fleet of Dodge / Chrysler mini vans most have experienced the issue. When we were notified of the Toyota campaign I immediately thought why Chrysler has not done anything about this potentially dangerous situation.

While driving down a road at 20mph, the spare tire fell out of my Chrysler Town and country 2006 van. It became lodged under the vehicle. The vehicle had to be jacked up and the tire was then released. The cable is frayed. Further damage was done to pipes that fell with the tire. The car had to be towed to the dealer to be repaired as I felt it would be unsafe to attempt to drive there. I called Chrysler to see if there had been a safety recall and was told that this has not been an issue. After researching online, I discovered that it has been and is an issue. I am concerned about mine and others safety regarding these vehicles with spare tires mounted underneath. If I had been driving faster, or on a highway, injuries or fatalities could have resulted. I called Chrysler regarding this and was questioned about my driving and whether I hit something, which I assure you I did not. I am concerned that Chrysler is not taking this issue seriously.

Spare tire removal system does not work, putting driver in extreme danger while attempting to remove tire per manufacturer's procedure. Attempting to do this along roadways puts operator at extreme risk, and anyone who might be in the vehicle.
