2009 Chrysler Town & Country. Consumer writes in regards to after NHTSA 14V-373 recall was performed. However, a spontaneous vehicle engine compartment fire occurred three weeks later. The consumer was not confident the recall was completed.

The car engine shuts off while driving, you have to pull over and start the car again. I have been unable to remove the key fob from the ignition switch and not able to turn the engine off. I had to work at pulling the key fob out for over a half hour before I was able to shut the car off. At one put I removed the key fob from the ignition switch but the engine was still running. I checked if there were any problems with Chrysler vans and learned of a recall L25 regarding ignition switches. I never received a recall notice for this problem from Chrysler. I called a Chrysler 800 number, they told me of the recall but said they did not know when parts would be available. I called a local Chrysler dealer, talked to a service person, they had no idea of when a part would be available to fix the problem. They gave me another 800 number to call, I basically received the same information. Both 800 representatives told me to rent a car in the mean time. I called the corporate headquarters, spoke to a representative and she told me their engineers don't even have a fix for the problem and they have no idea how long it will take. I asked about Chrysler providing us with a loner car and she said that was not an option. She also said if I feel the car is unsafe to drive, I shouldn't drive it. What good is my van if it sits in the driveway for who knows how long. I am unable to drive the vehicle because it is unsafe. Chrysler's customer service is very much lacking especially in light of all the GM ignition switch problems and law suits in the news. The impression I received from Chrysler is one of "too bad, there is nothing we can or are willing to do for you." Chrysler should be held accountable for cars unsafe to drive while they come up with a solution to the problem. Consumers should not be expect to lay out money to rent a car when it is Chrysler's fault!

We bought this car new in 2009 from the gary miller Chrysler dealership in erie, pa. In early 2011 and continuing to present, the car engine will stall out upon applying the brakes to decelerate. The stall always happens at a slow speed right before stopping, just when it stops, or a few seconds after the car comes to a complete stop. It feels like the engine and transmission want to force the car to keep moving instead of braking to a complete stop. On some occasions, the car tries to lurch forward and requires holding the brake down hard to prevent it. The other situation is when starting at a slow speed, the engine will not automatically shift gears and the engine revs up dangerously high. We pull off the road, shut down the engine, restart, and then it seems to be okay. We have reported this to the gary miller Chrysler dealership service department since it started in 2011. They have been very concerned and attempt to discover the cause by test drive and diagnosis, but have no explanation. Other than this, the service there has been very reliable.

My 2009 Chrysler Town and country 4 liter engine stopped dead 3/4 mile after leaving home in the morning. I was doing 15 mph at the time. Everything stopped working, I.e., the power steering was unmovable and the power brakes were non-responsive. Because it happened in a curve, I ended up in the oncoming lane on a single lane road. Luckily there was no car in that lane. In addition, the heating and cooling system and the radio also stopped. The dashboard went dark. There was total silence. After about 45 seconds I restarted the car with no problems. I drove the car to the nearest Chrysler dealer whose service advisor asked whether or not a check engine light came on after the event so that he could get the failure code. The light did not come on. The dealer's service advisor said that he could not fix the problem without the failure code. I have driven the minivan for the last 10 days with no problems. Now I am uncertain if and when this event will happen again and am concerned about my safety in the future.

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler Town and country. While driving various speeds, the contact stated the vehicle would stall intermittently. The dealer and manufacturer were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,000 and the current mileage was 36,500. The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler Town and country. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the engine stalled without prior warning. The vehicle restarted on the fist attempt and resumed as normal. The failure occurred on ten different occassions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where they were unable to locate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the continuous defect. The contact expressed significant concern of a safety risk. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000.
