CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

Windshield wipers will not turn off. It was raining the morning, I started my car. I turned on the lights and the wipers. The ran slowed so I turn my wipers on low. I stopped my car and attempted to turn the wipers off, but they would not shut off. The sprayer was would not work also. Took the car to the dealership the BCM and turning signal module needs to be replaced. $1400 charge. I have only had this car for approximately 2 1/2 to 3 years. It was considered brand new when I bought it with only 3,000.

My windshield wipers run constantly when the vehicle is on. The wipers do not engage while on remote start. I went into the unconnected and turned off rain sensing module. The wipers continued to run at a slow speed. I used the windshield wiper lever to turn off the wipers. However, my wipers continued to run no matter what interval I used. My car will not dispense washer fluid with the use of the lever. I did check to ensure washer fluid tank is filled with washer fluid recommended for my vehicle.

The "stick" device that controls the wipers & window solution, just went out on my car. The whole part needs to be replaced. It's going to cost between 600-700 to fix. My car only 3 years old & has 35,000 miles on it, but is out of warranty. When I spoke with the mechanic about the repair he stated that Chrysler/Dodge has modified this part at least a dozen times because of failures. However, no recall has been issued. I think Dodge should cover the repair costs.

Placing sun guard up on the dash. When flipping down the sun visors to hold the sun guard in place, the passenger side visor broke and dropped right out of the roof and dangling by wiring harness. Due to the random broken component, the visor cannot be safely up and is visible distraction to the driver when checking the passenger side blind spot.

I want to report that the wipers can not clean the windshield properly. If you try to drive through a torrential rain the windshield is wet, even in the highest speed. And also the windshield (glass) absorbs the dirty, oil, etc, so it is very complicated to clean with the windshield cleaner or other products that are specific for this purpose.
