CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

Intermittent problem when I put car in park car won't turn off. I get a message that car is not in park. Car is in park because when I give it gas it doesn't move. I have to reverse and move forward multiple times to turn off. Sometimes I have to drive around and then it will turn off. 1st time Dealer couldn't duplicate. 2nd time it happened when dropping off to the Dealer, Shop Manager witnessed, but then called and said they could not duplicate. 3x they Dealer had all day, Shop Manger called me and said they could not duplicate. He said that if there is no code or they can't recreate they can't do anything about it.

Put the car in park and it will not shut off. Sometimes the dash warning system says " Not in park" but not always. I put the car in drive and then reverse to and move it back and forth and try again. We have had the car to the dealer many times for this issue but they have not been able to recreate the issue other than once. It is very annoying when you can't just pull into a parking spot, shut your car off and get out.
