CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.
From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.
The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

2005 Dodge Durango (hemi) my Dodge has randomly cut off on me during low speeds or turning into certain areas. It has happened 3 times to me and once to my wife. I came very close to taking out my mail box last night. My steering wheel even locked up. I called the dealer and they told me nothing like this has ever come up at their dealer. Very odd. I love the vehicle but I am very worried about my families well being. What should I do? I paid way to much money to have to worry about this kind of stuff.
My husbands 2005 Dodge Durango 5.7 hemi, purchased in may, stalled three times already. The first two times it stalled he was turning into a parking lot. It happened at 1,281 miles. We took the car in and they road tested the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem. They recommended further diagnosis if condition persist. Well it has, my husband was driving on the highway while it was snowing when his windshield wipers stopped working causing him to make an emergency stop on the side of the highway. When he got back into the car to drive, the Durango stalled again!! it only has 8,000 miles on it. The dealer has it and they have no clue what is going on. Someone is going to get hurt or worse die because of this stalling condition.
While reversing out of driveway, my 2005 Dodge Durango with 2200 miles stalled and could not be started for another 10 minutes. All electrical and power shut off. Had to push the vehicle out of the middle of the street.
I have a Dodge Durango 2005 with a hemi 5.7L engine. I am having a problem with it stalling when I make a slow turn. It has only 2450 miles on it and it has stalled several times. When it stalls, I loose power steering and it has almost caused me to be in an accident. This has happened about a dozen times.

Vehicle stalled intermittently and without warning while the caller was driving. It happens mostly at low speeds. The caller said the vehicle will start back up. Dealer said a software change was needed to the control module. This was performed and the problem was still occurring. Manufacturer said they were unaware of any problem like that.
Vehicle stalled at a stop. No dash warning lights illuminated at stall. Second time this has happened. Vehicle taken to dealer for service after first incident. Dealer stated that they cleared fault codes and drove for fifteen miles with no problem first time. I am taking back to a different dealer now.
Engine stalls at freeway/highway speeds causing loss of control - numerous electrical failures - transmission - A/C blows both cold & hot air at same time - power switches getting hot to touch - repairing dealer has been unable to fix - each time it is worked on - problems multiply after they flash/reprogrammed PCM/computer
Vehicle was in gear and either slowing to a stop or already stopped. The engine RPM's dropped below 500 and then recovered very briefly (~1 second) before stalling. The engine was idling very rough during the drop/recovery phase before stalling. This incident occurred 5 times within a 1 hour period.
My 2005 Dodge Durango has an engine stalling problem. It currently has 13000 miles on it. I bought it brand new in Dec. Since then it has stalled on us about 6 times at various speeds in drive and in reverse. I have called the local dealership 3 times now and nothing is being done about it. They continue to tell me that they have never heard of this problem and do not know what is causing it. This is a problem that concerns me because I use this vehicle to cart around my very young children so I need some thing reliable. Please help to get this problem taken care of soon.
Engine stalled about 5 different times while slowing down. She started vehicle and it died while she was sitting still. Dealer did not know what the cause of the problem was, and they didn't know if it will be covered by the warranty. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet. Update 11/15/05.....contact complained about vehicle stalling. Manufacturer's recall of fuel tank, and airbag light problem. In regard to stalling, the contact was told by the dealership that the stalling problem could not be repeated by service technicians and that no codes were available after computer diagnosis. Then, was told to start vehicle when it stalls the next time and have it towed directly to the dealership. In this way, they would be able to obtain the code for the problem. Also, they told the contact that the idle wasn't correct and they adjusted it appropriately. Concerning the fuel tank recall, after recall service was performed, the fuel tank was replaced. Finally the driver's side airbag light would come on and stay on during vehicle operation. The dealership investigated it and found a wire problem which they repaired.
I purchased a new 2005 Dodge duragno limited edition with the hemi 5.7 engine on 2/1/05. Last week, around the 3200 mile mark, I experienced my first engine stall when pulling into a parking place. No lights or other indicators come on to warn you that your car is about to die! the car started up again immediately and ran fine for the next 3 days. Three days later, I was driving in busy atlanta traffic trying to turn left across two lanes of traffic. I had plenty of room when I began my turn, but the engine stalled almost immediately, died in the middle of the intersection with no steering ability, and I almost got hit by several cars and a large truck. The car immediately started back up again. I immediately called my Dodge dealership and they said "haven't heard of that before so you'll need to bring it in so we can run some diagnostics". I printed off some of the complaints at the NHTSA website and took them to the dealer with me. The service advisor proclaimed, "the internet is our worst enemy, don't listen to that stuff". which to me meant, "Dodge doesn't want you to have any clue about what is going on with your car". I told him the information came from the NHTSA website and told him of the numerous complaints, but he didn't seem to care. Three hours later the dealer called and told me to come pick up my Durango and take it to another dealer. His diagnostic machine was broken and he had no idea when it might be fixed! I told him to take it to the other Dodge dealer. Still waiting to find out what they may or may not do. I am extremely concerned at the lack of excitement on the part of Dodge to fix this problem. I feel unsafe driving my car. I am single, have no family in this town to haul me around or borrow a vehicle from, and Dodge doesn't care. I am not very happy about having to drive this vehicle based on the accident I was almost in a few days ago. I guess some people will have to die before somenoe does something about this.
Vehicle stalls inexplicably. No fault codes found from computer. Dealer unable to provide troubleshooting and resolution. 2005 Dodge Durango with hemi.
My wife owns an '05 Dodge Durango with the 5.7L hemi engine that she's had for about 5 months. Recently, the engine stalled when she attempted to accelerate from a stop at an intersection. She was able to restart the vehicle immediately without an issue. This was the only time it happened, but I thought I would submit this incident in regards to an article that mentioned this problem in '04-'05 hemi engines.
I have an 05 hemi Durango limited with 3,300 miles on it. Since new the vehicle has occassionally died when making low speed turns. The dealer has informed me that the PCM flash provided by Dodge has not corrected the problem and they are still working on a fix. Overall the vehicle has stalled five times. I have also filed a similar complaint for my 05 Ram 2500 with the hemi engine.
While driving at 30 mph engine stalled, locking up power steering. After engine stalled, and sat for a while the vehicle could be restarted. Consumer could only drive vehicle for a short distant before it stalled again. Took vehicle to a Dodge dealer, and was informed that they could not find anything wrong.
