CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

Upon fueling my car, there is always a kick back of fuel that ends up spilling on to the floor of the gas station. According to this site there are a couple recalls for my vehicle year and model that reference a recall about this. I called the Chrysler corporation and they told me that my specific vehicle did not qualify.

I recently purchased a used Dodge Durango from a used car dealer. The first time the gas station attendant filled up the gas tank, it overflowed. Gasoline was all over the side of my car and onto the ground. The attendant was not touching the gas pump handle. The second time I had the car refueled at costco, it happened again. This time, it was even more of a spill and held up the refueling of other vehicles for quite some time while the attendant mopped up the spilt fuel on the side of my car and ground. I contacted my local Dodge dealer and reported the problem to them. They checked my VIN # with recall notices regarding this type of problem. There was a recall id # 54823 which affected 26,000 vehicles, but apparently not my VIN #. I then contacted Chrysler corporation. They also said that my VIN # did not have a recall notice on the fuel system. Recall id # 54823 states "the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling." I have searched the internet and found this is a common defect with similar makes and models manufactured by Chrysler corporation. I do not feel that I should incur an expense for a safety item that has previously been well documented. Please help me resolve this safety defect before someone is hurt. Durango

  • 29,000 miles
I purchased a Dodge Durango in 2007. At the time the car had 24000 miles. Around 2009 the car when I filled the tank with gas and removed the pump handle from the Durango the gas would overflow all over. So in 2009 I took the car to the Dodge dealership in North Florida ave. They said that there was no recalls for this car. At this point the car had 29,000 miles. Up to this date I still have this problem every time I fill the tank. I have taken this car to the dealership in 2010, 2011, and 2012 for the same problem and they still tell me there is no recall for this problem. So I decided to look online for this problem. There is a lot of 2005 Durango with the same problem.

When filling up the vehicle with gasoline the filler tube does not close and gasoline comes up and out of the tube. I was informed that numerous complaints have been issued, as well as, two recalls, but since my vehicle was manufactured in 3-2005 it is not covered. As this has the potential for injury and fire this recall should be expanded as obviously it affects more vehicles then in the past recall notices.

When filling fuel tank, gas spews out of filler tube posing fire risk, damaging clothing, and adding voc's to atmosphere. Many complaints of same thing and even recalls on various model years. Makes very little sense why Dodge or ntsb doesn't connect the dots and correct this problem in a comprehensive fashion.

When I am filling up my gas tank at a gas station, the pump will kick off when full and a few seconds after you can hear fuel rushing up the tube and then sprays out all over the side of the car and on the ground. The side of my vehicle is starting to rust because of this and I have been held responsible to fuel cleanup at a few gas stations. Its my understanding there was a recall issued on some vehicles but since I am not the original owner, I am not sure if this was taken care of.

Gasoline was ejected from my fill tube at the gas station. After filling the tank the gas nozzle clicked to stop and fuel shot out of the filler tube covering me and my car in gasoline. This happens everytime the car is filled. I understand Chrysler/Dodge has recognized this problem in many vehicles but for some reason my vehicle was excluded.
