CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.

TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

When I started having problems starting the car, I took it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong.

Told me it was a random occurrence. When it started happening more often, I again took it to the dealership and they kept it for a day and said every time they tried starting it, it worked fine. Might have something to do with FOB or key. If we don't get it fixed, the car might not start at all. They quoted me $200 -$300 to replace the part and then things would work. I made an appointment to have it fixed and the day I took it in they said, o'by the way that isn't the problem, we aren't sure what is causing the not starting. They then kept the car for 24 hours and finally said we don't know what is wrong so we don't know how to fix. Now I find on line that it is a TIPM problem.

Why didn't the service department know this after all the times I've been bringing the car in and complaining.

I haven't gone back to them with this info yet, but since my car warranty is expired, I can see the only way to fix would be my out of pocket $1200 or more which I don't have!!! If this is a Chrysler problem, then why don't they do a recall. Are they trying to pull a GMC coverup?

It's taking me about 15 mins for my car to start. I am turning the keys in the ignition about 20 times...The car will start and then immediately shut off. On Friday (8/25/14) my wife was driving on the highway and the car just shut off and immediately the steering wheel locked up on her. Luckily she was in the far right lane and traffic was not an issue. In other words, we dodged a bullet. We have a daughter that has had multiple strokes and my wife was on her way to pick her up from the hospital, I can't even bring myself to think of what would have happened if she was in the car.

My warning lights do not work. I just replaced the outer tie rod less than 6 months ago and now my car is shutting off after I've turned it on. Chrysler where is your integrity? If something is wrong, the right thing to do is fix it. Isn,t that what you teach your children. I hope you will take our issues seriously.
