CarComplaints.com Notes: The third generation Durango is plagued by a defective TIPM, particularily in the 2011 and 2012 model years.

TIPM, which stands for Totally Integrated Power Modules, is responsible for controlling and distributing power to all the vehicle’s electrical functions. So when your TIPM goes haywire, bad things start happening. Things like your water pump can stop working, your engine can stall out and your airbags can randomly deploy.

So I had the Fuel Pump Relay kit replaced on the recommended recall in December of 2015. I had NO incidents prior, but have had 5 since and 3 of them coming in last few months.

I took to the dealership AND to another automotive place - both said there were not errors on diagnostics and they could not replicate the issue. I called Chrysler to see if they would cover since there was an active recall -- they told me since it was already replaced, I could PAY for diagnostics (which I already did) and if it failed, they would allow for the RECALL, if not, then I would have to pay the diagnostic charge and the parts/replacement ($379.00 total). I don't understand this since it NEVER happened UNTIL they did the recall replacement.

I can now tell when it is about to happen. Normally, early in AM == all times when I was taking kids to school. I am usually slowing down to go around a curve on our two lane highway -- and lose all power. Luckily it hasnt happened when one of those big gravel trucks is behind me....or in a busier place where it could have been dangerous. Each time, it takes roughly 10-15 minutes before it will restart and run. Then it is fine for a few weeks -- months.

Durango 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

2011 Dodge Durango 3.6L dies when accelerating on freeway, and starts back up after 10-20 minutes. Dealer cannot diagnose problem.

Almost got hit by a semi trying to cross 3 lanes of heavy freeway traffic while trying to coast to the shoulder. After I set on the shoulder for 20 minutes trying to get a hold of AAA it finally started and ran fine.

Took it to the dealer in Athens TN. They keep it overnight but was unable to diagnose. Said there was no fault code in the memory. They did do a down load and did not charge me because they could not confirm the issue. There will be lawsuits over this issue. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed over this. Chrysler takes no ownership of this issue if it is not under warranty. The dealer down load did not fix the problem. Happened again yesterday. Same scenario, this time on a two lane road with minimal shoulder to get of the road. Will add a new post for this incident.

NO MORE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS FOR ME. This was my third and last. Had issues with all.

This is the third time my car has stalled on me, fortunately each time I was slowing down to turn and no one was behind me. This problem could put lives in danger particularly when traveling on highways at higher rates of speed. The issue with the TIPM module should be top priority for the company and dealt with immediately before it becomes fatal.

Durango

  • Automatic transmission
  • 121,000 miles

I purchased my 2011 Dodge Durango two years ago. It started to give me problems within a month of purchased. Sometimes it would not start at all. The dealership did not believe me until I gave them a AAA receipt. When it was checked out. I was told the battery was bad so it was replaced.

In December 2015, the vehicle started to stall on me only when I exit the freeway sometimes not often. I put the vehicle in a Chrysler dealership shop. They were unable to diagnosed a problem. It stopped for awhile now it has started back. It is scary when it happens but what else to do when the dealership is unable to locate the problem? Just recently while driving my vehicle shift to 4 gear. I am unable to locate a 4, There is only D, N R and P.

Durango Crew 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Upon returning home on the freeway the vehicle lost all power, all light and electric systems stayed on. I became aware due to loss of speed, loss of power steering and the RPM went to 0. I Am guessing it is a fuel pump/relay problem. This unit has become a huge headache!!! This is only the most recent in a long list of problems. Had to be towed 150 miles and then again to the repair shop. Definitely my first and last Dodge!!!!

We have had a multitude of problems with this vehicle. The drive shaft broke and then after Dodge repaired it, it fell out the bottom of the car while driving down the highway at 75mph. The push bottom start failed and had to have it replace. Then started to stall while driving when slowing down making a left hand turn and FCW would pop up on the dash. The car would jerk when giving it gas going up a hill. The check engine light has now been on for 2 weeks. The eco gas is not working either. They just repaired it again for the 20th time, they stated it had residue on the chambers so that is what was causing the problems. I find it hard to believe that would cause all the problems listed above.

Durango Cidedal 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission

We bought this 2011 Citadel Durango as a used vehicle in fall 2013, stalling problems started soon after. We are very fortune to have gold package factory extended warranty.

The vehicle stalls more often in the winter, some days 2 and three times on my way to work. Stalling problem occurs while vehicle is slowing down, most often at stop signs but has a habit of also stalling while I am turning left, and merging right with traffic coming. Once the vehicle stalls, if will restart but you have to put it in Neutral, apply the brakes and press button to restart. At first I would panic a little, especially when turning as you loose all power steering. Sadly enough I am now getting good at restarting on the go, that is how often the stalling occurs.

At first Dodge had no idea what could have been causing the problem. Theu test drove it many times, no stalling, no feedback as to what could be causing the problem. Finally a recall came out and they replaced the fuel module, but unfortunately for us the problem still occurs. The vehicle has been in 3 times in the last few months and still stalling. Starting to get fed up, tired of running to the dealership, tired of having a stalling vehicle. I am due to have a baby at the end of Jan, and this vehicle is supposed to be what I trailer my horses with, stalling is the last thing I need.

I have contacted Chrysler Canada Customer Care and they are working on my case. Hope something can be done to resolve this issue soon or we may have to consider selling, trading...

Durango Citadel 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,000 miles

On June 20, 2014, I was driving my Dodge Durango Citadel with the 5.7L Hemi engine. I was going 50 mph. Suddenly, the vehicle stalled. I was able to coast to a side street. Luckily, I was only a mile from home, all on back roads. I restarted the vehicle and began to drive. It was pulling so heavily that I could only drive about 10 mph. I basically coasted into my garage and turned off the Durango.

I immediately called Tempe Dodge where I talked to Chris S. in service. He said he could not look at it until Tuesday, June 24, 2014. I had no choice but to leave it alone until that time. It did not move one inch until Tuesday, June 24, 2014, when my husband got in the vehicle to take it to the dealership. I followed behind him. When we got to the dealership, he said the vehicle drove correctly. I left the Durango to be checked by Chris S. When he called back, he said nothing was wrong with it: everything checked out okay, including the computer check. I told him to keep driving it until he figured it out. On Wednesday, June 25, 2014, Chris S. called me to report the dealership had driven the Durango 50 miles and there were no issues.

I spent the night before scouring the internet regarding this same problem. There were hundreds of the same complaint, including a class-action lawsuit against Chrysler filed on November 1, 2013, by Peter Velasco, Christopher White, Jaqueline Young, and Christopher Light stating the same problem. According to the lawsuit and other comments on several websites, the stalling problem is nationwide and so common that the part to fix it [the TIPM-Totally Integrated Power Modules] is so widespread that it is on national back order. Chris S. said there was nothing he could do because there was no "proof." I explained that it happening to me was "proof." He said he had to see it himself. So Dodge will never fix it because it happens so fast that they will never experience the stalling and loss of control in high speed traffic.

All I want is for Dodge to replace the TIPM. I still have a warranty.

Durango Citadel 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

My wonderful 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel with the 5.7L hemi stalls while driving. I bought it used in October of 2012. From the day I had it, I noticed the vehicle oftentimes pulls while driving. Additionally, when the vehicle stops, there is a clunking sound and the vehicle does a small jerk. The first major stall was on April 23, 2014. I was going 65 mph on the freeway, when it stalled in the middle of traffic. Luckily, I was able to coast to the shoulder. I was very close to the dealership so I re-started the vehicle and drove it there. The entire drive was hell. The vehicle would only go about 20 mph, and it was pulling very hard. When I got to the dealership, it wasn't open yet (it was 6:30 am). A service man was waiting outside the dealership and offered to try to drive the Durango. He got in the vehicle and drove it less than a minute. When he returned, he said he wasn't sure what happened, but he could feel the vehicle's gears (?) go back in place. I then continued to my destination, horrified. It drove fine, except I could still feel a small pull. Sometimes the vehicle jerked. I was cautious. Then it happened again (I will now go to the next complaint).

Durango Citadel 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,150 miles

The engine has stalled on at least three occasions while I was driving my 2011 Durango. Thankfully I was parked each time because I have read articles of this happening to people as they were cruising down the road and it could be deadly. I have a hard time getting my truck to start on occasion and each time it stalled on me was when I had recently started it surprisingly without any issue. But, shortly after getting it started I would shift into gear to drive off and it would just stall. Not only is this and the starting issue extremely embarrassing it is a serious hazard.

This and all of the other problems I am having with my Durango is without a doubt related to the TIPM that Chrysler is failing to acknowledge.
