Grand Caravan ES 3.8L

This is a 2001 Dodge ES AWD with 117,000 miles bought with 107,000 miles. The vehicle looked well taken care of and very clean! It was surging while driving down the freeway like the transmission was slipping. RPMs would not hold steady at 2,000 rpms. Found out the fuel filter was never replaced so we replaced it. Seem to help but still surging a little off and on. Mileage very poor from 12 to 18 on the highway. Replaced both O2 sensors and Temp sensor. Plugs and wires already replaced, so I replaced coil pack.

Recent 800 mile trip home Van died 5 times! Each time it was just a massive jerk. Saw the RPM needle drop to zero once. Each time it was like you shut the ignition off and back on as fast as you could, but it kept running. It seemed to do it only when you would press on the accelerator above 70 miles per hour.

I plugged in cheap computer and noticed that it went into open loop once. O2 sensors reading normal. Thought possible Throttle Position Sensor bad, though hard to check out but seemed to indicate bad areas in sensor, I replaced it. I rechecked plugs and found them all torqued to 60 FtLbs and gaped at .053. Unknown brand of wires. Only 10,000 miles on tune-up. Last part replaced was the TPS. Plan on replacing the plugs again, since the plugs may be damaged for over torquing them, besides the fact they are very hard to break loose! Will update with any new solutions or results.

I Hate this car we have had so many problems since 2002. The whole computer system was replaced within the first six months of owning it. But it took 2 times trying to fix it before they put in a new one. We also had issues with the cruise control, and now its the heating and cooling tubes for the duel heating in the third row (the car overheated while driving) 680.00 to fix as well as a some leaking head gaskets and some 2 belts are worn. so the grand total for the grand lemon is $905.00 plus tax!!!!
