Dodge Grand Caravan '05 all door locks fail to operate. Not aware of cause or events leading up to problem. Located website with over 100 entries of customers stating same problem. Dodge refuses to admit there is a problem or safety issue. Removed and re-inserted oid fuse to temporarily correct problem for a few hours. Then locks fail to operate again. This is a safety issue & Dodge should be required to correct it. On the discussion forum hundreds have had the same problem and dealers do not have a solution either. This is a safety issue because this failure allows doors to be opened by children. If this is not addressed there will be law suites due to injuries to those falling out of vans.

I used the key fob to unlock my car and drove to work. My doors are supposed to lock when I reach 19 mph. This did not happen. My doors will no longer lock by any means other than manual locking. The power locks no longer work. This is a minivan and drive with my children in the car. This is the second occurrence. We needed to pull the iod fuse and replace it. After searching around this seems to be a very common problem with the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Power door locks don't work with switch or remote like all the other complaints for the 2005 Caravan. What the others don't include is that the only way to open the rear hatch is electronically and it is also disabled when the power locks don't work. If for some reason this was the only way to get a child out there would be no chance to rescue them other that breaking out the glass.

The power locks on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan have stopped working. To me that is a safety hazard, I have a little girl and like to have the doors locked while driving, and if I have anything in my car I don't want it to get stolen. I looked on the internet and found that alot of the same year vans are having the same problem. There is a software out there to fix the problem which means someone out there knew there was a problem.

Auto door locks on my 2005 Grand Caravan SXT stopped working with no warning. Also will not lock or unlock with remote. They are suppose to lock at 19 mph. 51000 miles on vehicle. Its a computer thing and is not safe.

Grand Caravan

  • 48,000 miles
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan 48,000 miles. Power door locks failed. Disconnected battery and cleaned terminals: Locks worked for a week. Replaced battery and they worked for another week. Consulted web forum, which recommended removing door lock fuse for 5 seconds. This worked for another week. Now believe that body control module (BCM) needs replacing, which is expensive (over $700). Web forums reveal hundreds of same complaints about '05 Caravan. Big safety problem is that when remote lock is activated, horn beeps, signifying doors are locked, though they are not. This poses the danger that someone could enter the van at night undetected and assault the driver or hijack the car when owner returns. Chrysler Corp. Should be compelled to fully repair this fault by a general recall.

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan srt door locks don't work. Disconnecting negative battery terminal and removing and replacing the 40 amp fuse evidently resets the computer and they now work. It has been reported that the fix is temporary. I will wait to see how long they work.

The automatic locks just suddenly stopped working, which is a huge safety issue on a minivan with kids. I went online and discovered tons of people had the same problem with 2005 Grand Caravan/Caravan. There is a quick, temporary fix of removing the 10D 20A fuse or the negative cable on the battery, but the problem apparently recurs with ever diminishing periods of time in between. The permanent fix is apparently an update to the software, which clearly states that Dodge/Chrysler is aware of the problem, that it is a problem with their engineering, and that they are only too happy to take money from consumers to fix a safety problem inherent in their faulty design. It should be recalled and fixed by them before we start hearing about tragedies, especially as this occurs without notice.

We just purchased a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan yesterday and did not discover until we got home that the power locks do not work. We feel this is a safety issue especially with our two small children in the vehicle. It is unsettling to think that someone dangerous could attempt jump into the van at any time the vehicle is stopped and not be able to quickly hit the button and protect our family. It is also easier to forget to lock all the doors after exiting the vehicle, which makes us more prone to theft. We would really, be grateful for this to be considered for a recall. Thank you so much!

Power doors and locks don't work, despite flash of headlights and horn beep indicating that they do work. Found on the web that you can pull one of the 20 amp fuses for a temporary fix but this keeps happening more and more frequently.

The door locks open or close from the switches or the smart key buttons. They also do not lock at twenty mph as designed. This due to a known failure of the body controller in the vehicle, however the dealers I have spoken to say 'yes', this is a known problem that consistently comes up after warranty periods. This failure puts the occupants of the vehicle (mini van) at risk when locks don't work as designed, especially considering that the van only can unlocked with the key at the driver's door.

The power locks do not work for the driver and all passenger doors. They will not work with either the remote or the interior lock switch or after driving the vehicle over the reset lock mph of 20. Only the rear tail gate lock is functional. This issue started approximately October of 2008 and continues. Disconnecting the battery and reconnected after approximately 15 minutes will get the locks to work again but only for the time being. The power locks may stop working again within a couple of hours or couple of weeks. My mechanic stated that a reflash may work but the problem has a history of coming back after the $175 reflash. A new BCM costs $500 and that may not correct the problem either. Because of the high rate of lock failure for this vehicle and the safety issue here (a key hole is only provided on the driver's side door meaning people need to stand in busy streets or parking lots while driver opens his door and then climbs through the interior to pull up the buttons for others to enter as well as lock not locking when vehicle is in motion) I feel a recall is needed to be issued for this power lock problem. This is a safety issue.

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan door locks, fuse replaced, iod fuse pulled to reset system but is short lived only worked for a day. This vehicle has 55,000 miles. Most of the vehicles have this problem after 40,000 miles.this is a safety hazard with no real fix. It was said that I might need a software upgrade -if that's the case it should be a recall do to a malfunction not ware and tear. The door locks do not work, regardless of key less entry or the switch on the door panels. This should not be a problem when all the fuse have been check and replaced or are good.

2005 SXT Dodge Caravan power door lock failure, after 1 minute on the web I have found people with the exact same problem as I, to the tee! this is obviously a problem with the manufacture and software/firmware. Dodge has a fix. Why has this not been recalled yet? such a simple fix of a firmware upgrade would save many hours of frustration. I am very upset that this problem is so well know and has happened exactly the same way to others and nothing has been done to right the problem. My power doors locks have stopped working yet the lights still blink when using the remote and the rear tailgate will work. After replacing the battery they worked again then quit after a few days. I could have just copied this straight off the forums I have been reading...its is the exact same thing going on that everyone else is experiencing also. Please issue a recall notice and have Dodge take care of this problem. Thanks

I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has power door locks. The locks will not operate from inside the vehicle or from the keychain. Not being able to lock and unlock this vehicle makes it very difficult with two young children. The safety feature that locks the doors when the vehicle is going over 18 mph is also not working. The only doors that has key unlock are the driver door and the rear door. I have found a website that has many others with the same problem. This should be recalled. Please look at this website, and help us get this fixed. www.carcomplaints.com/Dodge/Caravan/2005/electrical/power_door_locks_quit_working.shtml. thank you

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the power door locks do not work at all. When the battery is disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnected, the power locks still did not work. The computer must be reprogrammed in order for the locks to work again. The dealer stated that they would repair the failure at the contact's expense. The contact has researched several complaints regarding the same failure that he is experiencing. The failure and current mileages were 41,000.
