When going down the road, I have noticed that when hitting a bump or going over something like rail road tracks I hear something like my shocks (if this kind of van even has shocks on it) need to be replaced. Does anyone know anymore info. on what it could be?
Since the replacement of the stabilizer links and bushings back in July of 2005, I have replace those same items 11 times. I have put on new front struts three times. Replaced the controls arms and the stabilizer bar itself. None of the above repairs stops the "rattling" or "thumping" in the front end when you go over bumps for more then three weeks at a time. Mad, YES! Frustrated, YES! Spending too much money on futility, YES! Do I feel better after all this complaining, NO!
There has never been a recall on this problem and I have read countless other testimonies from people all across America that has had the same problem. I refuse to spend another dime on the front end of my van. I think I will drive it to Chrysler's headquarters, park it right in front and put signs all around it showing the lemon it has been. Perhaps a few TV news people will take and interest and it may just prompt Chrysler to do something about it.
This vehicle has had the same problem since I bought it. Took to the dealer several times and they couldn't fix it. Replaced everything from struts to bushings. Have spent well over $3,000.00 and the problem remains. Dealer
even seemed glad to see the warranty run out! I will never buy another one
even though it is the best riding of all the vans I have ridden in.
Have replaced everything in the front end except outer tie rod on passenger side. Most of the noise is coming from that side. On rough roads it sounds scary like something might break. No vibration, just the noise! It actually started almost 2 years ago. Have replaced parts on both sides. But I don't think I replaced the sway eliminators or tie rod links. Will try that next and let you know.
The clunking over bumps is very annoying. The installed new stabilizer links in March of 2010. The clunking continues! They said I needed an outer right tie rod end for $237 + $89 for alignment. I had it replaced for $82.49 and went back to the dealer for alignment. The clunking continues! I also had a pulling to the left. I went back and they cross rotated my BF Goodrich Traction TA's and said I needed a rack and pinion for almost $1200. I got another opinion from a local shop who said it might be the rack and pinion, but I should wait and see what develops. They also told me that the dealer had installed my front tires with the arrows pointing backwards. BF Goodrich said to have them put them in proper orientation or I would suffer bad traction and tread wear. We will see what happens after next Mondays appointment.
I put in a pair of front McPherson struts to quiet the rattling noise but it didnt help--other folks told me they have the same problem but we still dont know how to fix it.--
Sway bar bushings don't last very long, creates an annoying clunking sound when hitting any and all bumps. At first glance they appear to be fine, but after changing them anyway the sounds goes away for awhile.
We purchased the best Chrysler extended warranty available with new car purchase. So far all repairs have been covered and we get a free rental car (minivan) even if the vehicle is in for just one day. The dealership is convenient to our location, the service has been great and so we are happy with this vehicle.
We purchased our minivan fully loaded. Although the seating is not as comfortable as a Honda or Toyota, the price of the vehicle with the extended warranty was still almost $20,000 less than the competition. If we had not purchased the extended warranty, I'm not sure I would be happy with this vehicle.
