A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Started in 2019- 2008 Grand Caravan Se- Bought Used, Van Would Not Start and No one could Say Why ? Mechanics could not find out Why with their auto diagnostic machines they. Thought in was a Bad TIPM Fuse Box and I replaced it with a used Fuse box but starting problem continued. In Dec 2022 The Starter went bad and was replaced and then I had no more trouble with my van starting.

It's been 4 months now. Start was Turning over Slowly Just Before it went completely out. One time when it would not Crank I taped on Starter and it Cranked. I would Disconnect the Battery for 10 Min to 24 Hours and then it would Crank.

MY QUESTION: IS WHY COULD THE MECHANICS NOT FIND THE TROUBLE? (The Starter) At Dealer or other Auto Repair Place? (Not Starting,Intermittent Starter, Started Sometimes and Sometimes Not.) Would Stop Running While Driving at Low Speeds under 50 miles per hour. Read other Complaints that Their Van Would do it on Interstate at 65 Miles per Hour. Wayne In Memphis,Tn

Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

It started off as an intermittent problem. Put the key in the ignition, van would not start, then would start... then one day, it just wouldn't start. Got it towed to a mechanic who determined the win module was bad. Mechanic installed it, sent it to the dealer to get it programmed. Has been fine for 2 years, now is starting to act up again.

Wish us luck!

Grand Caravan LXT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Acts like a dead battery, starter engages, barely turns the motor. Next turn of key, fires right up with full strength. Sometimes takes several turns. Sometimes won't start at all. Had it towed in three times. Replaced the starter, and now the TPM ...some kind of power module. Starter didn't help, new batteries don't help. Maybe the TPM????

Advantage Dodge in Mentor guaranteed they fixed the WIN electric ignition---the one replaced in May 2013. That was the first week of August 2013. Soon after the key fob started sticking again--not coming out. I told Adventure Dodge and Dawn that works there said "they all do. Do you want to try another van here and see?" Thursday Aug. 22, 2013 at 5:15 PM guess what? They key fob would Not Turn and it was apparent the ignition was GONE again!!!!! This was confirmed by Road Side Assistance. He said "we tow these vans all the time. Same thing." I had it taken to the closest dealership in North Olmsted, Ohio. The guy there called, very rude and said "I can't look at it until a week. The dealer near by is full until mid September." I called Advantage Dodge--the ones that "Guaranteed" their work-- and told them they were to get it towed to there place on Dodge's dime or theirs. He agreed. THREE TIMES IN 4 MONTHS!!!! SAME EXACT THING. I called Dodge Corporate again. Reopened the case they were very quick to close the first week of August with a sick sarcastic "there's nothing that can be done." Remember this!!!: Today Dodge Corp. said they send out a technical team if the dealership cannot handle the problem. They DID NOT tell me this 3 weeks ago!! I told them "then do it NOW!" Never got a call back from Advantage Dodge today. Not one. Hmmm. I told Dodge Corp. I want the diagnostic and reason in writing this time. I want 100% guarantee it will not happen again!! This is time number 4 for THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION since 2011. After this I will never buy Dodge again!!!! They make junk and do not back it up. Think about it---the North Olmsted Ohio dealership just told me how extremely busy---weeks of service appointments---they are!! Junk falling apart. I asked that dealership guy yesterday "so you are saying the Dodges are pieces of crap?" He said "I am not having this discussion." Stay tuned!! Let's all see if Advantage Dodge can figure out how to PREVENT electrical ignition failure and why it happened 4 times, three in 4 months. I told Dodge Corp. this is my last attempt to work it out. After this I am going to the media News Stations with this situation. I am also getting my Attorney involved. I have to add up the thousands I have paid in towing, rental cars, and dealership "allowed diagnostic fees". I told Dodge they are to reimburse for the tow and rental car this time!!!!!

Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

My 2008 Grand Caravan SXT(4.0) has had starting issues since Dec 2011 @ 51k miles.(Clicking noise under hood when key is turned to start position, everything else works fine, but starter wont spin.) I have had the starter replaced, the WIN module, keys (not for this problem) and have had it to the dealer for this same problem at least 7 times over the last 18 months and 33,000 miles. I've been through 4 batteries (batteries are NOT the problem) and have had it happen under almost every TOTALLY RANDOM circumstance. Something (electronic, I suspect) is blocking the starter from spinning. It's seems to be sending 'juice' to the bendix, but not the starter motor itself. The sound it makes is that of the starter bendix kicking in but the starter doesn't spin. Hot, cold, dry, wet, engine cold, warm, daytime, dark, remote start, key start, & any other pattern or condition you can imagine has been tried. THIS IS A TOTALLY RANDOM behavior & of course the dealer says they cannot duplicate it. The one time they did get it to duplicate, they replaced the WIN module, but that didn't fix it. I've had it go as long as 3 months without a symptom & once had it do it eight times in a row in one day, only to take it to the dealer the next morning where they couldn't duplicate it, although they kept it a full week & did nothing. It has done it to me 3 of the four times I started it today. I have the top of the line full Chrysler warranty & they have refused to make an educated guess as to what may be the next part to try and replace. My service tech said it would either be the WIN module, keys or main computer for the van when I first took it in, but we seem to be at an impasse. I have multiple videos of this behavior, including one of it taking 146 key turns before it started!! (Usually it's 2-5) When it decides to start, it sounds as normal as can be.(Although on RARE occasions, it can sound like the starter is dragging.) It's not the starter (replaced once, no change) it's not the keys (we have two & it does it with both, even on the same occasion), it's not the WIN module (replaced, no change), so figure this out Chrysler!!! My 1996 F-150 that I paid $300 bucks for starts EVERY TIME I turn the key. My $40,000 Dodge Caravan gives me a crap shoot!!!
