Grand Caravan ES 3.6L

Brought in with engine check light on & running ruff at Idle. Told cylinder head needs to be replaced & can't even put engine back together, so I have no transportation. Dealer tried to get the part & was told I was over 3,000 (three Thousand) on the back order waiting list. The dealer can't offer any transportation & said to call Chrysler Relations at (800) 992-1997. My vehicle has about 79,000 miles. They tell me that they are working on expediting the part put have no idea when that might be as the supplier has not let them know anything about availability. As I am out of their regular warranty they will not provide any transportation. Put I should go to my extended warranty, which I understand is through Chrysler.

That only provided 5 days & when checking with them was told they are not responsible for parts not being available. I keep telling them that I don't believe there are any of these parts as there are over 3,000 on back order. They insist there are parts, but don't have info from supplier as to when my expedited part can be delivered after 6 days from reporting need for transportation & only being offered to request expedited part delivery. They will not provide any transportation for me & can't even give me any idea if & when I might get my van back. So I am without any vehicle for .... (Months????) Also the dealer told me they have 1 in the shop with same thing since 1st week of January & it is now Feb. 26 & they have no idea when that one will get their part.

That one was under 50,000 mile manufactory warranty, so they gave him a vehicle until his is fixed. But my extended warranty will only give me 5 days rental. I think Chrysler owes me a rental vehicle until they can get a part to the dealer. With over 3,000 back ordered it sounds like an engineering, design or material flaw & they should have a recall or at least provide replacement transportation. What options does 1 have when they can't provide a part making your vehicle unusable?????? It is 5 years old & only about 79,000 miles & it is unusable due to Chrysler's problem/defect. The dealer told me they even tried to find a part from other than Chrysler, put there are none anywhere they could find.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.6L V6

Apparently a bolt holding down the journal of the camshaft bearings broke, causing the camshaft to wobble (hence the rough idle). This progressed to more looseness until the camshaft wobbled enough to break off about a 6 inch section. Basically the engine would not run at that point. I rolled into the dealership. They found the problem, covered under warranty, but was without car for week and a half, waiting for a new head and cam. Although under warranty, it was lucky that it did not happen when traveling in the unpopulated areas that I frequent. No additional time or miles added to the warranty.

Beware of the rough idle.. It may indicate a camshaft issue.
