The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the power steering return hose failed. There were no warning indicators illuminated before or after the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The contact diagnosed the vehicle himself and determined that the faulty part was the power steering return hose. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact wanted his vehicle included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V273000 (steering) because he believed the failure was relevant to the recall. The VIN was not provided. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

Have had power steering hose fail twice in two weeks. This has happened after starting the vehicle in extreme cold temperatures. Once it happened in driveway but was not noticed till on the road. Next time happened after starting the vehicle in driveway but was noticed before taking on road. Seemed to be spraying fluid on engine so was a fire hazard.

For the 2nd time since I purchased this car 2 years ago, I have lost power steering and had to pay to replace it. This car has been a lemon since I purchased it. First the head gasket blew, then I had to replace the radiator, then the ignition switch, now power steering twice. This car is nothing but a money pit. I tell everyone I know to stay away from Dodge

Upon start up in extreme cold, vehicle made loud noises when the steering wheel was turned. While driving, the steering became increasingly more difficult when turning the steering wheel (specifically when exiting the highway). When I arrived home, I opened the hood and checked the engine compartment and noticed fluid on the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the bottom of the engine. It was red in color and determined to be power steering fluid. Upon research, I discovered that this make/model and year has a recall (NHTSA campaign #16V273000) but my VIN in particular does not appear to be a part of it.

I have been having issues with my power steering return house busting at engine startup when the weather is 30 or below. This is my 5th winter dealing with this and I have replaced the reservoir (recommended by the dealership) and I am still having issues. I would reattach the hose and the same day it will bust again. It has busted when we are at home, work or out running errands. During the non winter months I always have a slow leak and have to fill about once a month. This leak is eating away at my motor mount and ac belt. I have came across a recall (S08) for this issue but Chrysler said my VIN/engine type is not covered under this. Clearly I am having the same issue and do not understand to why I cannot get mine fixed. I have a strong belief that this is a manufacturer issue and I don't have an extra $500 laying around to fix it, if its even fixable my a local mechanic. I live in the midwest where we can get pretty harsh winters and with my power steering not working it is not safe. 75% of the time I have my 3 and 4 year old with me. The upsetting part about this is I am still paying on this car (only 6 months left thank goodness). I hope I can get some positive feedback and answers soon because the people from Chrysler was not very professional or helpful. My 2009 Dodge Journey SXT will completely shut off while driving, not stopped but right in the middle of driving. This has happen 2 times sense getting it back from the dealer in January from taking it in for the recall for this very problem. This is very dangerous and now I am being told to bring it back to the dealership for a diagnostic test to see if it related to the recall and if not related then I will have to pay for the diagnosis lol yea right!! I have never heard of a car dying while driving it. If I am told I have to pay as mich as one penny the only thing I will be paying for is a lawyer.

The failure that occurred on Feb 12,2016. Put the life of my child and myself in eminent danger. While traveling 70 mph in the high speed lane, with moderate traffic on the highway, the car sudden shut off. The dashboard went black, the engine stalled and the car became almost impossible to drive. Not one indicator light on the inside or the outside of the vehicle worked, I reached for hazard lights that did not respond, the gas pedal was unresponsive. The steering was slow and hard to use- power steering was not available. Brakes seemed slow to respond. I know for certain had I collided with any item the airbags would absolutely without a doubt not deployed. The car had simply decided to "shut off", I put the car in neutral hoping to continue rolling forward down the highway with traffic. I was able to muscle the car to safety on the side of the road. I placed the car in park, and turned the ignition to the off position. After several minutes of calming myself and my daughter down I restarted the car. It started, however now every light that can illuminate on the dash, the wipers, day time running lights, radio, and door chimes in a 30-40 second repeating pattern. The dashboard indicates that the car is in park, reverse, neutral, and all forms of drive at the same time. The speedometer, RPM gauge, gas gauge, oil pressure and temperature gauge bounce from the minimum to the maximum during the cycle. The car has clearly had a extensive electrical failure- the "main computer" - as I dont know the exact component that has failed is no longer able to determine whats going on. Having this terrifying failure with my daughter in the car caused me to google the problem, im not the only owner this is a reoccurring situation for many owners. Im just so thankful to have walked away unharmed

The ignition reads bad key and won't start. The tire stems corrode and break off. The calipers are defective which cause the breaks, tires and rotors to wear. This vehicle has too many defects and should have been recalled years ago.
