I bought a used 2001 dodge ram 1500 truck back in 2009 and the dash was crack some, but now it is totally messed up and cracked all the way across. It is unsafe and the pieces are falling into the truck and getting caught. I wrote Dodge and they referred me to a site that will sell me a new one for $1,200. I told them it should be a recall and dodge should pay for it. I also told them that was a crappy thing on dodge's part. Suzieq510

This is not just a problem that is isolated to a few. "Google" dodge dashboard to find many that are in my situation. Now while a recall should be used for safety reasons I.e brake line, etc, I thoroughly believe this IS a safety issue. If I were to be involved in a head-on collision the broken pieces which I have duct taped would fly all over the driver and passenger which could result in significant injuries.

This problem needs to be addressed and if it is not at least I have given a prospective Dodge owner of this; which may or may not play a decision when purchasing a Dodge vehicle.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 and both dashes are busted up. I finally realized that there was a problem when both were doing it. I got into my husband's truck and cut my hand. As I was working on my hand my son let me know that his was also doing this. Niether let me know they thought it was just the sun. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NOT ONLY DID I CUT MYSELF, BUT MY SIX YEAR OLD DAUGHTER RIDES IN THESE VEHICLES AS WELL. IF THEY EVER GET INTO AN ACCIDENT THOSE BUSTED DASHING ARE GOING TO BE LIKE SHARPNEL GOING OFF WHEN THE AIR BAGS COME OUT. Something definately needs to be done. Filing a complaint with dodge. I also have a 2007 Dodge Durango. I am a dodge girl but this is unexceptable. I will be uploading pictures.

OK, I am a Dodge fan. Have been since i started driving. My first truck was one. still have it today. But dodge let me down on this. They should replace this dash for me. I shouldn't have to put a penny of my own money into it. THIS IS A DEFECT. Come on dodge, help us out. This dash is in awful shape. It's not just cracked, it's busted all to pieces. I wouldn't mind a few cracks. but this. there is no dash if you ask me. Again, come on dodge. Help us Dodge fans out.

I have always owned Dodge cars and trucks, because they were always dependable and made with good quality parts. I know that to stay in business sometimes you have to cut the cost of supplies to stay up with the competition. There is a fine line between a part being quality and a part being crap, and the folks at Dodge really crossed the line. I have not seen one of the 2001 Ram 1500 trucks with a dash that is not cracked or broken into pieces. I have spoken with a couple of dealers and one person at Diamler Chrysler and was told that it was being looked into, but that was in 2008. The least they could do is meet the customer half way and furnish the parts to fix it with for free.

Just ridiculous that the dash should be crumbling on a vehicle that cost over $30K when I bought it.The collapse has been near total now, with maybe 25% of the dash remaining. With the economy the way it has been, I never could afford to repair.

I'm a mechanic & I work on all sorts of different makes & models of vehicles. I have seen almost every Dodge truck between 1996 - 2006 has had an issue with the dash plastic cracking. It is not an isolated incident witH just a few thousand trucks.......it is all Dodge trucks within the years mentioned above. The owners should not have to bare the cost to replace a defective part whether it is due to poor quality products or a manufacturing issue. Dodge needs to do the right thing & issue a recall to replace all defective dashes with a better quality product & compensate those who have replaced their defective dash already.

Ram 1500 V8

  • Automatic transmission

My dashboard began to crack after about 5 years. It steadily got worse and looked terrible. I did not have a safety concern but if I had an accident with airbag deployment may have been catastrophic. I found a company that sells dashboard covers that are glued over the existing Dash at a cost of about $500.00. I installed the cover, looks better but not great. I do have a concern that the cover will impede airbags if needed but installed anyway. I contacted the dealer and was refused any repair or reimbursement. Very unhappy with Dodge. will never purchase another dodge.

Engine is also sludgy and may need to replace. I am told this model has a terrible history of sludge build up and am told by numerous sources that engine replacement is more cost effective then a rebuild by the time the engine is stripped and rebuilt from the bottom up.

This was my third dodge in a row and never again!!!

I don't know if this will do any good but here go's anyway.

The dash board has developed MAJOR cracks and some of the cracks have triangulated and fell through.

I understand that Dodge has turned their backs on the issue. Not sure what good this site does other than vent a little.

This is a design defect and it is total BS for Dodge to respond by saying the problem is cosmetic. If I am in an accident and razor sharp pieces of dashboard pierce my skull, someone' s getting sued.

Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab 5.9L V8

We purchased what we thought would be the best & last truck we ever own, on Feb 23rd 2001. It has been sheltered, waxed, serviced & cleaned on a regular basis. From out of nowhere comes the horrible, awful crack in our dash on the passenger side. We have used the best vinyl protectant available on a regular basis to keep the dash & interior looking new. To top it off, the crack is directly in view of my wife as we ride. You can only imagine what I hear about this awful crack. Had our vehicle been left in the sun on a regular basis, you might expect this. We have loved our Dodge truck all these years & have had good service with little repair cost. But now we're steamed as there seems to be no assistance from Dodge to rectify this awful problem.
