I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota that has a crack in the dashboard. I have seen that there are over a 100 people that have the same problem. But no one seems to be concerned about this problem. The airbag could deploy if you hit a bump or a pothole too hard. What is it going to take for Dodge to recall these automobile, maybe somebody dying.

I purchased a used 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 slt laramie 2X4 in May 2005 from cutter Dodge in Hawaii with 32,000 miles.. the truck was flawless. In the beginning of 2007 my dashboard began to crack. I have taken excellent care of the truck as far as maintenance and protective measures to prolong the truck. I contacted the dealership and they said I would have to pay for a new dashboard with parts and labor it was quoted at $2100. I've researched online and through networking that everyone who owns a 2000-2003 Dodge Ram has a bad dashboard. It seems to be a safety issue, being the majority of the cracks are above the passenger side airbag. I have purchased a dashmat to try and prolong what is left of the dashboard, and at the same time upset that Dodge will not replace the dashboards, that are faulty. I've owned older trucks that didn't have dashboards that cracked or fell apart. Could someone look into this?

I now have two Ram 1500 trucks with dash top failures here in Texas. I was hit from the rear in my 2000 Ram 1500 and plastic pieces from the already cracked and cracking dash hit me in the face as it exploded on impact causing many minor facial cuts but none in my eyes. Being blinded caused me to loose control of my vehicle. I then hit a telephone pole. Air bag deployment occurred that cut both air bags on both sides with more shards of the dash. My 2001 Ram 1500 also has a severely cracked dash and is getting much worse. This occurred within 6 months of purchase. Chrysler Corp. Refuses to respond and the dealership will not respond with any help claiming they are not responsible plus they have no parts or any way to fix the problem. They claim there are no plans for the parts to be manufactured either. This problem has become an epidemic to Ram owners and will someday become and cause serious and potentially fatality problems. Accident reports are not showing the dash as a problem. They indicate the cracked dash was caused by the accident and is a result. Insurance companies claim it is a manufactures problems. The owner takes the hit unless he can convince the insurance adjuster to total the vehicle. The present political situation nation wide is stopping my pleas to my representative on my complaints and pleas for assistance to fall on dead ears. Dodge dealers are hiding the fact that a cracked dash Ram 1500 trade ins are being junked to hide this major issue. Thusly it is not getting the proper attention. At local auto auctions the Dodge Ram 1500's do not sell. As a note: There is also a major transmission problem as noted by most transmission shops all over the country. To my knowledge, nothing is being done to correct many and most of Dodge Ram 1500's problems because of the dashes. "get them off the road at the owners expense" is Chrysler corporations plan as per the factory representative when he was cornered. I have bought my last Dodge.

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, I have had no problems with this truck until now. The dash has cracked in several places and has a hole about 6" in diameter. If I am involved in a crash the sharp pieces of plastic from the deteriorating dash will be very dangerous. I am very concerned for the safety of myself and any other occupants riding with me.

The dashboard on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is totally falling apart. It started as a crack and now there's a big hole in the dashboard. I've read that this can lead to exposed electrical wires that may become damaged and cause a safety issue. Dodge needs to do something about this issue.

My dash has been cracking out over the last year and 1/2. the cracks look identical to pictures of other Dodge truck dashes I've seen on the internet and news. I and so many other owners are experiencing cracks that a safety recall should be issued immediately before someone is seriously injured because of the faulty plastic used on all these Dodge trucks.

My dash has been cracking out over the last few years. For about the last 10 months to a year I have had check engine light that has no significance to the way it runs, and the code is unrecognizable to auto garage. Also I have wiring problems for about the same amount of time. My dash lights will go out completely on their own and sometimes come back on, sometimes not. Also there are sharp edges on the plastic dash everywhere. As of two weeks ago, a section caved in, leaving a gaping hole about 6 by 8 inches in size. The cracks and hole look identical to pictures of other Dodge truck dashes I've seen on the internet and news. I feel that the sharp edges alone make for a safety issue, and since the cracks are so sharp and sever by the passenger airbag deployment site, I wonder if it would fail during deployment. Combined with the wiring issues that I and so many other owners are experiencing that a safety recall should be issued immediately before someone is seriously injured because of the faulty plastic used on all these Dodge trucks.

2001 Dodge quad cab pickup has failing wiring in steering column which makes truck die while driving. Which in turn there is no power brakes or steering and no electrical functions that makes the truck run. Dead on the road literally. Who knows at what speeds this problem may occur. Luckily, it happened to me while going slow and I was able to stop the truck. No known human deaths yet that I have heard of from this. If the problem is not fixed with wiring harness there will be deaths, I'm pretty sure due to this problem. I would like to do my best to keep my family and other families safe. This needs to be dealt with before someone does die unnecessarily in an accident that can be avoided by replacing the problem part of the pickup. The bearing clutch, rear carrier bearing, axle seals, rotors, power steering pump, pinion carrier bearings were all replaced. Also, the right turn signal and headlights failed. The center seat console bolting system fell out of the truck, the plastic dashboard panel and housing around the instrument panel was cracked in four places. The gasket on the water pump was leaking. The gasket, water and timing chain were replaced. The clutch failed, due to the wrong year transmission being installed in the vehicle. A 2000 transmission was installed in the vehicle, instead of a 2001. Updated 10/15/14

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. Recently I went out to my truck to go to work and noticed a large crack in my dash board running the entire length of the dash from the windshield to the front of the dash. This occurred about 2 months ago. And now as of this date 11 Sep 2008 I have noticed several more cracks are now present. It is concerning because the biggest crack runs close to the passenger side airbag area. I am concerned that the airbag might deploy while driving if the dash collapses as has happened on several other Dodge Ram pickups. The airbag deployment might cause an accident or worse an injury.

About 18 months ago the dash on my Ram 1500 started cracking. The dash is cracked in multiple places all across the width of the truck. I have not been in any accidents and regularly use a windshield sun screen when parked. I have seen several complaints on internet web sites and one news article on this problem. I am really concerned because my wife's cousin's Dodge Ram 1500 cracked and caved in. This must be very dangerous.

I, like countless others, own a 2001 Dodge Ram pick up in which the dashboard is disintegrating. Chrysler/Dodge refuses any responsibility although they know there is a problem. Full cost to repair is over $1,000. I have been told a variety of excuses such as "parked in the sun" or having used interior surface protectors. Through my own research I've found that the most likely named culprit is the use of non-virgin or recycled plastic or polymers as a certain percentage of forming material. My dash started as a small crack between the windshield and defroster vent, and has now begun spreading towards the passenger side seat, currently 8 inches. This is not just a cosmetic issue but also a safety issue as well. Imagine what shards of plastic can do during a small fender bender or to wiring and equipment behind the dash. From what I've been reading about other's experiences I can soon expect the entire dash cover to continue cracking and ultimately fall apart. It's obvious that Chrysler/Dodge simply expects to wait everyone out as they trade in or sell their trucks, especially in this day of unstable fuel prices. However, many of us rely on our trucks for daily life, buy with the intent of keeping them for many years in good running shape and appearance and expect the manufacturer to be responsible to the owners of their vehicles. I feel that Chrysler/Dodge is just "dodging" the issue.

Dash board is falling apart. Started cracking 2 years ago and now is segmented into about 5 main parts. Purchased truck new in 2001. Contacted Dodge and they said I had to pay for repair, if a recall was done then I would get rembursed. This is a safety hazard if in crash parts could fly into the face of driver or passenger.

I have incurred the dash of my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 cracking for approximately the last three years. It has very sharp pieces and is continuing to break. My dealership said that it could be fixed at a very expensive cost. I do not feel that it is up to the consumers of the Dodge pickups to have to fix this at their cost. I know of several others in my home town that also drive the 2001 Dodge Ram and they have incurred the same problems.

The dash on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 started cracking and large pieces of dash have began to break off. The main concern is that pieces of dash could fall off and disable the some of the vehicles electrical components (ie. Head lights, tail lights, turn signals ect..) another concern is that in a collision a piece of dash could break off and hit my spouce or one of my children causing injury.
