I am the owner of a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup year 2001. About 6-9 mos ago I noticed a crack inthe dashboard going the width of the dash about midway across the dash. I heard a report on the news about problems with the 01 Dodge pickup dashes cracking and causing problems such as electrical or headlight problems. I have noticed a second crack staring and am concerned regarding the safety especially since I use my vehicle for work.

After reading this link: www.local6.com/news/13227601/detail. html I realized that I was not alone in dealing with problems with the dashboard. At 11:45 am May 15, 2007, I contacted daimler-Chrysler's consumer line. I was told that I would have to pay a Dodge dealership between $50 and $60 just to have my dash looked at, and then if a defect of materials was determined, daimler-Chrysler would offer assistance in having the dash replaced. If there was a manufacturing defect, I feel it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to correct any such defects. As of right now, I personally have yet to experience any safety issues regarding this problem. But after reading the article I linked earlier, it has become a concern.
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. About a year ago I found a small crack in the dashboard. Now my dashboard is completely cracked all over and large pieces are beginning to break off and fall in. I looked into getting it repaired, but the costs were well over $1200. I recently saw a report or wftv channel six in orlando that the dashboard collapses are causing problems with the wiring and electrical systems. I plan on calling the Chrysler car line to see if they will replace the dashboard, but they currently do not have plans to recall any of the vehicles.
The dashboard of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 truck started cracking all of a sudden and was getting worse by the day. Now I am having trouble with the headlights due to the dashboard problems, and it is a safety issue.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram and the dashboard fell apart. I have read where others have the same problem and Dodge refuses to replace or repair. This is a safety issue and may cause airbags not to deploy during collision and possible injury or worse.

The dashboard on the 2001 Dodge Ram, 1500 started cracking about 18 months ago. It has now progressed to the point that I am fearful that the structural integrity of the entire dashboard was compromised, and that the passenger side air bag might not function as designed.
