I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and the dashboard has cracked and collapsed pieces fall thru the cracks and down to the accrelator and brakes and also exspose my electrical wires. Dodge will not do anything about this, really afraid someone is gonna get seriously injured.
No incident, dashboard is cracked and has major crevices and holes. Inside of the dash shows exposed wires and air bag compartment. Pieces are crumbling and could become lodged behind brake if not removed soon enough.
The dash has huge cracks and is caving in at places. I recently purchased the vehicle and it has these cracks, so I do not know when they may have started.
My company owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. Purchased it used approximately 3 years ago and within a short time dashboard started cracking and caving in. I thought mine was an isolated problem, but I did research and found many complaints about the Dodge pick trucks doing this. It is not under warranty by Dodge but it should, with so many complaints with the same problem.some of the complaints said wiring were severed and electrical problems from the cave ins. My is now very serious and I am afraid the same problems will occur from this. Dodge is aware of this problem but has no recall. I want Dodge to replace this as soon as possible at their expense. They should take responsibility for the safety hazards from their vehicles. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Dodge Ram 1500 truck, 2001, dash is falling apart as I drive. Pieces fall to include the glove box and the shelf which is a large part of the vehicle's dash. The instrument panel is hanging on and I can't secure it back. Distracting to say the least.

The dash panels on my 01 Dodge 1500 Ram quad cab truck have cracked and are falling apart. The holes in the dash have exposed wiring and electrical components. It appears the molded plastics used in the dash panels are deteriorating over time due to the sun's heat and rays. I suspect, like polypropolene tubing, all dashes made of this defective plastic will desinigrate. Anyway, after some research it seems that a aftermarket dash cover is the best remedy, however I'm concerned about the sharp edges of the old dash panel could cut some wiring over time and cause a vehicle fire.
My dash is cracking into pieces and it has sharp edges. In an accident these thick sharp pieces of hard plastic will cut someone. These can potentially put an eye out or severe the arteries in the neck killing someone. This is apparently a wide spread problem with Dodge trucks. Please address this issue. Thank you.
2001 Dodge Ram cracked dashboard. Edges are sharp, pieces fall underneath and expose wires and electrical components. The dash could collapse at any time and would be a major contributor causing a wreck. This is a very common problem and Dodge should take responsibility.
The dash was cracked when I purchased the vehicle over two years ago. There were cracks running over the area above the steering wheel and over the glove compartment, running into the area of the passenger airbag. It has steadily gotten worse. Just yesterday, 29 October 2010, the front cover quite literally exploded into fragments. The dash is currently not attached, it is just hanging. It stays in place for the most part but can very easily be lifted. I have seen, heard and read of many other Dodge dashboards with this same problem. If it is so prevalent, the manufacturer should be held responsible. A solution to this defect, be it a recall or reimbursement for repairs, is seriously past due.
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 dashboard has crumbled to the point of sharp, pointed edges could destroy or cut someone's face or body to the point of death if a headon wreck were to happen. This is definitely a plastic defect. I have 1985 Dodge 150 and the dash is perfect in it. I also have a 2000 Dodge durango and the dash is perfect in it and the dash in the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 is definitely dangerous to anyone riding in the passenger seats. This truck has never been off roading for fun and is still in stock tires.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard exhibited extensive cracking on the entire panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed that the dashboard defect was beyond repair. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
Dash on my 2001 Dodge Ram quad cab is falling into chunks and they have fallen into my tilt steering causing ignition wires to come loose causing the engine and all systems to fail ! near collisions have been on many occasions. Presenting danger to myself and all on roadway! I have contacted Chrysler and they wont do a thing. I have been in contact with hundreds of other owners of the same truck they have the same issues. Thank you
The hard plastic dash on top and front started cracking and falling apart in 2004. The vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500.I haven't replaced it because I think Dodge should, since about every truck I have seen is like this.
2001 Dodge Ram dashboard - I am the owner of a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup. My dashboard has caved in and apparently, this problem is pretty common with this year and make. In addition to the wiring all now being exposed, I am now concerned about the extent of the damage in relation to its' proximity to the air bag on the passenger side of the vehicle. Due to the total exposure in the area of the vehicles' placement of the dashboard, which is now non-existent, it could possibly endanger a passenger's life while riding on that side, unless I turn the airbag function off. This apparently is a major defect in the Dodge line. There are indications throughout the website, but also specifically listing that there is no recall to date. I was told the same thing when I contacted my Dodge dealer locally.
The failure of the plastic dashboard in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is a safety issue. There was not any particular event leading to its failure. One day I was cleaning the inside of the windshield and did not notice the large crack until I sliced my arm on it. It concerns me that this injury occurred while the vehicle was not in motion. I can not even imagine the injuries that could occur at high speeds from the faulty plastic. The fact remains that no recall has been issued on the current plastic as well as the "replacement dash." I mean a replacement dash that will eventually crack and inflict the same injuries as before.
My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 dash has been cracking and I have tried to keep up with the loose parts of it after they break off but while driving last week a piece became loose and in the turbulence inside the truck, with the windows down, a piece of the dash came off and flew into my right eye. I was able to get the truck stopped and after about 15 min I was able to get the piece out of my eye and continue driving.
