I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with 109,000,00 miles and I have a crack in my dashboard, starting out from my right defroster vent heading to my passenger side air bag !!!!!
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the glass shield on the instrument panel fractured. The gauges were still operable yet they were exposed. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage 64,000. Updated 11/11/10 the entire plastic part of the dash cracked and fell a part. Updated 11/18/10
Dashboard on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is cracking. No specific event precipitated the failure. A cloth dashcover was placed on top of the dash in an attempt to minimize injury if pieces of the dash would be disloged in a crash. The passenger air bag is in the area of the cracking and there is concern that an air bag deployment would also propel sharp pieces of the cracked dashboard towards the passengers in the vehicle.
The dashboard cracked and now has a hole in it. I contacted my local Dodge dealer and they would not offer any assistance with the replacement of the dash. The dash cracking and failure could lead to electrical issues as seen with other Dodge Ram 1500's.
2001 Dodge Ram dash cracking and a large hole in the middle of the dash. First crack appeared after turning on the defrost, in 2005. Reported it to Dodge. Told you are out of warranty cost to repair $1300 plus labor. I was still making payments. Just last week the dash made a popping noise and a 11'wide hole from the bezel to the window opened up. Dodge wants $100 for diag and copay to replace the defective dash.
The dash is cracked to the point that it surrounds the passenger air bag if it were to ever be used there would be sharp debris from the dash in large and small pieces it could seriously injure someone plus you can not find a replacement from the dealership.
The dash board in my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is cracking and falling out and the sharp edges of the pieces are a danger to anyone in the vehicle, should it be involved in a crash.
Dashboard and dashboard bezel cracked. Dashboard at this point consist of large holes, virtually dash and bezel no longer are in place. This problem has affected not only the trucks electrical system but also the trucks air-conditioning system.
The dash board in my 2001 Dodge 1500 is cracked so bad that chunks are starting to fall in and leaving behind very sharp edges. Someone is going to end up cutting themselves and Dodge is doing nothing about it even though it has been reported to them as a problem.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when she noticed there were several large cracks in the passenger side dashboard.. in addition, the air conditioner was also leaking coolant. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The air conditioner coil needed to be replaced. The technician advised that the dashboard must be removed during the air conditioner service repair. However, due to the severe defects of the dashboard a replacement was required before the air conditioning repair could be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
Dashboard has cratered and pieces break off to this day. Have had multiple cuts and wiring issues since the beginning of this problem and worried that air bag might be involved with the issues. Have placed a cover over gaping holes while waiting for a recall regarding this problem.
The dashboard is cracked and has gapping hole. I have replaced the dash once already and now I can not get replacement arts. The pieces are falling in the dash and I'm worried about electrical issues. My speakers are shorting out sometimes.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and the dash pad is cracked and several pieces are missing. I ask the dealer if Dodge had issued a recall for the problem and was told no. I have been reading several comments on corcomplaint about drivers with the same problem having additional issue such as headlights not coming on and other electrical problems...having large holes in the dash and having the sun heating up electrical wires seems like a safety issue. This is my reason for filing this complaint.
Purchased 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 as new. In summer of 2009 dashboard started to crack in numerous areas. We placed duct tape on it. However, this did no good, as the cracks have gotten bigger and the center of the dashboard has a big crater in it. It's only a matter of time until the dash literal breaks to pieces. A $30K truck should be better equipped with quality material. At one point will the integrity of the air bag be compromised! this is a risk to all 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 owners and should be recalled before someone gets seriously injured or killed from flying parts. This is also a costly repair depending on where you live, it is between $900 - $2000.
Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) 2001 Dodge dashboard flew apart while going down a dirt road and cut my face! what a piece of [xxx]! after I checked around looks like Dodge needs a safety recall on that defective plastic dash.
