During the last several decades I've driven 2 Mercury Grand Marquis LS's and now have a 2007 Crown Vic' LX program car. Actually, the last two cars were Program Cars. So far only the last 2 cars have had this "sudden acceleration while braking" problem. It's an "off and on" kind of thing. Doesn't happen for weeks or even months and then during one day it'll happen several times. I've been able to simply give the brake pedal a sharp tap and the throttle revving will disengage. I've taken our current 2007 Crown Vic' to dealership twice. Each time they report the same thing - can't "replicate the complaint". So far the problem only happens when I'm driving the car since I'm the one in the family that drives it 99% of the time.

This last occurrence caused a wreck! A very minor one but still my car did hit the car in front of it, right as I was braking at a stop light! No visible damage to either car and no one seemed to be hurt (it'll remain to be seen if that's the case in one year's time).

When we got the Crown Vic' in late 2007 the car didn't seem to have the same problem as our last Grand Marquis. Much later on the acceleration problem cropped up but it seemed to solve itself for a while. I've given up driving the car on the interstate or in big city traffic and only use it to run errands in our small town. I cannot take a chance with it acting up again. There IS a class action lawsuit that's been filed in West Virginia against Ford involving this problem. Let's hope a recall comes out of the suit! Check out carcomplaints news story on it. From what the suit states Ford knew of this problem and from 2010 on it's added a brake override system to stop the sudden acceleration while braking! They just haven't notified the owners of older Fords about it! Loved our various Ford products until this starting happening. Now what kind of car can I buy that will give me - a tall woman - enough leg room?
