2018 ford edge with 2.0 ecoboost engine over heating leaking coolant into cylinders caused engine failure. Lucky this did not catch fire. Ford knows the issue and will not put out a recall. Very dangerous and disgusting business practice.

Driving home from work, I noticed a warning light indicating that the car was overheating. I stopped and realized the coolant tank was empty, so I immediately put some coolant in and continued driving home. The next day, the car wouldn't start, and after I checked the engine oil, it was contaminated with water. I called a Ford dealer for repair, and they don't want to take responsibility.

My 2018 Ford Edge is equiped with Ecoboost engine and as a result all these problems are occurring: Ford failed to disclose that these vehicles have a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine-??s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure; and failed to disclose these defects create a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. Ford dealers have stated that I need a new engine.

I recently bought my car and the battery light was on when I test drove it. They told me to bring it back and they would fix it. That it was a sensor problem easy to fix. I have brought the car back multiple times. They put a whole new sensor system in, new battery, and just recently rebuilt the alternator. As I was driving the car home, the light went on again it comes on a few times in the day, and eventually goes off by itself. None of the mechanics know what to do now. I looked up on Google if there were any recalls on my car and read something about-?? the power supply cables at the starter, and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc. -?? I-??m thinking, possibly could this be it? The light that comes on says charging system service now in red and there is a picture of at battery. I do not feel safe, especially not knowing what the problem is.
2018 Ford Edge with a little over 25000 miles and serviced at the dealership it was purchased from. The battery will drain to less than 5 volts overnight for no apparent reason. Unit is on its second battery and it test fine. The issue is not consistent, sometimes it will happen only after a couple of months, othertimes after a few days between occurances. Its appears when when the car if turned off, something in one of its many computers is not shutting down all the required systems allowing the battery to drain overnight. Short of installing a battery disconnect switch, I', running out of ideas. Neither my wife of I feel safe driving the car, since it may leave us stranded.

APIM Module needs replacing. Screen keeps going black, does not work after trying to reset. Took to dealer and stated it does not work. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! No contols no navigation, cannot adjust heating, defrost and no rearview camera. makes it difficult to drive. Was told screen needs replacing too with this defect. There are many web reports of same issue with ford and they should be responsible for this repair
Only have about 13600 miles on my 2018 Edge and the battery drains down about.5 v overnight. Could not start in in my garage after 4 days of sitting, charged it up and took it to the Ford dealer where they did a load test on the battery, it tested at 89%. I did a load test with a multimeter with the same results. Dealer told me to keep a trickle charger on it because I didn't drive it enough which was a poor answer. There is a NHTSA #18V54800 out there and a Ford recall #18S25 that does not include my SUV but it could have the same problem. Looking on line there are others with the same issues with the battery going dead just by sitting and in most cases changing out batteries was not the cure and it seemed Ford offered no resolve. If this is a problem caused by a loose connection or a short it could indeed become a bigger safety issue. My vehicle was built at the same plant as stated on the Ford recall # and it should be considered a safety issue for all Edges of the model year of 2018 made a that plant. I'm not sure this is my problem but I need to start somewhere noting that it's happened to others besides me. Thank you for any help in this matter
The power liftgate has stopped functioning. After changing the alternator because of a voltage regulator error code and replacing the batteries, the power liftgate continues to not work. If the battery is disconnected, when reconnected the power liftgate will work only once. When trying to engage the feature, the liftgate will attempt to unlatch and lift however, the hatch does not open. Fuses have also been changed. the power liftgate feature has to be disabled in order to properly use the hatch. No one has been able to find a correction for this issue with not only the Edge's but its sister model by Lincoln. Many complaints of the liftgate opening and closing on its own. The liftgate not operating properly removes an access point of not only convenience but more importantly safety. If there were an accident, the liftgate not opening properly would not allow for passengers to remove themselves from the vehicle if that were the only exit point in a crash. Outside of the listed inspected components, the only other option is to have the entire electrical system inspected. At the price point this vehicle is offered on the market, many owners would not have the means to pay the dealership or a private repair shop to take apart their entire vehicle.
The rear hatch, yes it's available for inspection. It closed on me while trying to get items out of the back of the SUV. I opened the hatch from the drivers control panel leaving the car running in park, then tried to get items out of the back. While I was under the hatch it closed on me. I was unable to stop it from coming down on my back/shoulder despite pushing back against it with my arms against the floor. I ultimately had to jump into the back of the vehicle where the hatch closed on my foot and locked. I tried to open it again using the push button on the outside of the hatch, it closed again, I was unable to stop it from closing and locking again while trying to lift it from the outside. It did this four times in a row. The only "unusual" thing was that this was during an ice storm. I have tried to reproduce it several times since with no luck, also there are no freezing temperatures now. No, I have not taken it to a dealership yet but will this week. I do not know if there were warning lights since I was in the back of the vehicle, but it did sound the tone that you hear when the lid is closing by its own power luckily which alerted me that it was closing. This has never happened, it closed with force four times, and I was unable to stop
My screen went completely back and never turned back on. I can no longer use the usb ports, turn on my radio, use my rearview mirror, connect my phone nor control my A/C settings. I took it to Ford and they indicated it's a bad apim. Another issue with my vehicle. After 18 months my brand new vehicle had a battery, starter, alternator and engine replaced. Now I need a new apim? Ford is ridiculous. They're customer service and quality in cars is gone. My car should be a lemon yet, 3 years after continuous problems, I'm still fighting for my vehicle to be recalled.
There is an electrical issue with this vehicle - started at 24000+/- and drained batteries - after replacing 4 batteries - check engine light came on - dealer did pressure check and engine had to be replaced! after replacement, battery was again dead. They cannot find reason for drained battery. This vehicle is unsafe and potentially a fire hazard. I cannot get relief from Ford motor - refused to buy back. Vehicle was parked every time battery was drained.
First the car started trembling when turning on and loosing power, it continues to get worse, check engine light came on I took it to get checked and it was off. Then eventually it came on flashing, I left it in place to get checked. The mechanic told me it was not worth it to fix it, it was damaged beyond repairable. I'm not exactly sure what happened but I have the report.
Dead battery numerous times in the 1 1/2 years owned, the first after 3 days and dealer picked up, said okay---has happened many times since. On May 20, 2020, returning from a trip, dash lights went off and on several times and smoke came out from under hood. SUV is at dealer now, so do not know what they will say. In motion on a rural road 2 miles from home.
