overheated

Upon returning from a nearby restaurant today, I noticed a slight hesitation while accelerating from a signal light. Suddenly, a warning light came on indicating the "engine overheating". I immediately parked the car and shut off the engine. I then connected my FIXD diagnostic tool to the OBD port. Restarted and FIXD returned CODE P1299 which says, "Cylinder Head Over-Temperature Protection Active". I checked the coolant reservoir, and it was empty. There was NO prior warning to this overheating condition. I refilled the coolant and cleared the code. The warning light did not come on again, so I drove less than 1 mile to Firestone. Now, they say the engine is damaged and a complete engine replacement is recommended. The car has 67,000 miles. (3-10-24)

Edge SEL 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

This car lost some coolant and overheated without warning, there was no visible leaks and no indication on gauges that it was overheating. I opened a case with ford motor co and they did not want to cover the repair under warranty because it was 2000 miles over the warranty. The car was just a year old. They finally agreed to pay $2000.00 towards the repairs which was quoted at just over $8000.00. The dealer decided to lower the price a little, so it ended up costing us $5000.00.

Now the piece of crap surges at low speed, took it back to the dealer and they are trying to sell me a new transmission for $6000.00. Very disappointed with Ford and this car.
