Rear window latch totally rusted out; can't drive with window staying open...took to Ford dealership. Was told whole window and latch would need to be replaced. Told them I used the glass latch about three times in 3 years. Ford repairman says, maybe it rusted because you didn't use enough! No, I say, that makes no sense. He then says, well, you do live in Michigan! I say, yes, but the latch is on the INSIDE and I store it in the garage. I say this is defective and they should replace. He says you wouldn't have to pay if you had extended warranty. Geesh!! What a bunch of BS! Hey Ford, your parts should not rust out on the inside..stand up, admit and fix the defective part....on your dime!

I took my Escape in for an oil change. At the same time I asked about the latch to the rear window, saying it had rusted and that my husband had to tie down the window so it would stay closed. The service manager said he had seen this happen before and that the latch could be replaced. Once I got the oil changed and they checked the back rear window they said they could not replace the latch that the whole rear window had to be replaced. I am having a hard time understanding this. I told them I don't even use the window I use the hatch instead. How can it rust when it is never used? I am just wanting to know if anyone has had the same problem.
