Unable to get an E-Check, emissions test. Getting Gateway error. Found on [XXX] that others are also unable to get their SUV's E-checked to get a registration sticker. Ford is possibly aware of this. Found SSM [XXX] and SSM [XXX], "Some 2020-2021 Escape/Corsair and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles may exhibit a communication fault with emissions inspection equipment. This may be due to the software in the gateway module. To correct this condition, reprogram the gateway module to latest software level using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Use causal part 14F642 and applicable labor times from Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual." Yet they are not doing anything about it. I called my local ford dealer and they weren't aware of any of these and want me to pay for the reprogramming. If this fault is inherent in the product line, it should be a recall. I wanted you to know about this. No warning lamps, I went to 2 different county E-Check inspection places and tried several different connections and even tried the self serve kiosk. I could not get the e check completed as their equipment would not communicate with the Ford OBD-II Port. This affects all owners of the product years 2020-2021 for Ford Escape and Broncos. My dealer is not at fault and offered to reprogram my vehicle at no charge, so i commend them. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Popping noise when opening shutting door on driver side from the door limiter. It is a very commonly reported problem that is affecting 2020 Ford Escape. The spot welds are poorly designed and will cost approximately $800 to resolve
The left driver's door was making a popping noise. On closer inspection found that the door support bracket was broken. I took it to my local Ford dealer, and they confirmed the bracket was broken. When they replaced the part, the noise was still there. An inspection by the dealer's collision center showed a defect in the door and they stated the entire door had to be replaced. When asked if this was a known issue they replied it was an issue with the 2020 Ford Escape. I asked if my door would fall of their reply was "MAYBE". I was instructed not to push the door to hard when opening and closing the door. I phoned Ford and asked about this issue and the told me that they do not issue safety recalls on their vehicles and suggested I contact your agency. If there is a possibility that the vehicle door may fall off and it is a known issue I believe some safety recall should be issued.
The Check Arm Attachment on the driver side door for my 2020 broke off because of poor welding, I have read it is a common issue with the 2020 ford escape
Driver side door suddenly began creaking and popping when opening and closing. Not sure if it-??s safe to open or close the door, not sure what happened to it or what-??s wrong.

The sun roof opening panel shield fell off while I was driving. It covers the divider between the front and rear sun roof glass. Luckily I didn't have the shade open so it was just sliding all around the sun shade. I did some research on the problem of the shield falling off. It seems that it is held on by 4 or 5 pieces of double faced tape. If I had had the sun shade opened, the piece could have fallen on me or a passenger in my car. It extends across the width of the car, from window to window. I brought the car to the Ford Dealership in Metairie, La. Matt Bowers Ford. My car is 3 years old with a little over 15,000 miles on it. It is no longer under warranty for this problem. I only have a remaining warranty on the Powertrain. However, Ford agreed to give me a Good Faith Discount and the repair will be $200 instead of the initial $2500 quoted to replace the sun shade and panel shield. When the Service Tech tried opening the sun shade to retrieve the panel and put it back in place, I think it hit a spring and the entire shade rolled up and was ruined. That had to be replaced too.I asked the Service Technician if they were going to install the panel shield with double faced tape again, and he said those were his instructions. I feel that the shield will come down again in time and I might not be so lucky this time and be using the sun roof, thereby possibly getting hit in the head while driving. It needs something stronger than double faced tape. In my opinion this should be a recall and Ford should figure out a better way to install this panel shield. It seems to be happening to quite a lot of Ford Escapes.
Door would make popping sound when opening and closing front driver side door. Window will roll down slowly and up slowly. Stopped using for fear of window getting stuck in down position. Rivets on door have popped loose and door arm housing moves inside slot.
The driver door panel is not welded properly which cause the door to crack when you open it and the arm of the door is broke. I took the vehicle to the shop and they stated that it a welding problem with Ford my issues and now I have to pay for the door. I feel ford need to recall the vehicle and fix the issue free of charge
The spot welds on my driver door check mechanism broke loose not allowing me to secure the door. This also caused an issue with the driver door window. After inspection the vehicle is currently with the dealership for repair. Driver door open warning lamp presented even when the door was closed. The problem presented itself on 10/26/2023.
Check engine light came on Friday and 24 hours later started making a whirring sound lost power on the highway started smoking and smelled like it was going to catch fire. Was impeding traffic and almost caused an accident. Had it towed to Ford dealership where a diagnostic test was run. They determined that it was engine failure and Ecoboost failure. Coolant was leaking into cylinders 2&3. They claim the code fired on September 9. They asked if I had taken it anywhere to clear the code. I most definitely did not. Ford Motor Company is unwilling to make this right and have quoted me almost $9000 to fix this issue. Certain makes and models of 2020 Ford Escape have had engine recalls. This is clearly a malfunction on their part.
The hinge of my driver-??s side door came off. I did file a complaint with Ford but a friend told me to file one here also. It is currently in the body shop getting fixed. It is going to cost over $3,000
right side driver door hinge is making noise when opened. It is beginning to not unlock when i am entering car. i have to go to passenger side to unlock. I am unable to operate window (up/down) fully. I have taken this to dealer and have been told by their body department that this is an issue that they have seen in on other escapes. Have been advised to not put window down. They are looking into this and will call me but have heard nothing since - 3 weeks. I am afraid that this door will break loose or that I will be unable to get into my car and be stranded somewhere. I am unable to get this fixed and obviously can't trade it as it is a known issue and dangerous. PLEASE RECALL THIS AND HAVE FORD OFFER TEMPORARY VEHICLES UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. i AM A [XXX] LADY WITH NO SAFE TRANSPORTATION! 3 welding spots on check arm of drivers side door have failed. Door is difficult to open and close; makes popping noises. Window reluctantly goes down and up.
Called my dealership for my door problem, says theres been issues with the door check, but im a month and half out of warranty and Ford does not want to take responsibilty for this problem that so many people have with this... so I will have to go pay for this on my own and get a rental car.. I feel as though this should be a recall if so many people are having the same issue!!!
My driver side door all of a sudden started making popping sounds when opening and closing. Got to the point where I could not close the door. I had to disarm the mechanism that was popping. I did a little research and I was able to see the rivets that hold the arm had pulled through the door panel thus causing the arm not to work properly. I am just over the 36,000 mile warranty so will not fall under the warranty. Because I had to disarm this mechanism to be able to shut my door I have no protection to protect the door from over opening and causing more damage. I also see there have been several other complaints of Escape owners having the same issue.
Driver side door makes an unusual sound when opened all the way. Until it got to a point that it makes a popping sound when opened/or closed. The door check bracket is loose. Called the dealership and they said they-??d have to change the entire door?? That would cost thousands of dollars for something that-??s out my control. This has to be investigated and recalled for free. I-??m very concerned that this would eventually cause my car door to fall off while driving. God forbid!
The driver side door hinge has separated/ broken away from the door frame. The damage has also caused internal issues with the working mechanisms inside the door such as the window not going down fully.
