Nar 3-11-03 the consumer has experienced several problems with his Ford Expedition, the side view mirrors have turned back from the inside, the top of the shift handle broke off, and all the tires had to be replaced before a Firestone recall had been issued. The consumer feels that the dealership should be responsible for repairs since it's was a manufacturers defect and not a maintenance problem.
Shifter cable broke. Shifter was occasionaly difficult to shift out of park when car was new, took it to dealer and because the problem didn't demonstrate itself when the dealer had it, they didn't do anything to remedy. 4 years later (when warranty is out), the cable snaps. The mechanic calls in to order the new cable and there are plenty in stock, I'm told it's a very common problem. If so, why isn't it a recall?
While driving consumer noticed vehicle was not shifting, able to go through all gears, vehicle did not shift. Not able to start in drive, and unable to put it in neutral to start. Dealer replaced linkage cable. The shift lever would not go to park position.
