I put a deflective shield on when new, took it off last year to wax and there was the paint bubble stuff all across the front of the hood, and no rust just gray color. I have been looking and see other cars with the same "bubble hoods". Maybe a good song title for a Ford add, "Got the Bubble Hood Blues". Is there a recall for repair?

paint corrosion on hood

2001 FORD Expedition- paint bubbling on lip of hood and under lip of hood...spreads upward like a disease exposing aluminum that was never primed /prepared/sealed properly from the get go! All else is okay except the plastic components for the sun roof are dry rotting...YIKES and I have a phantom door leak every time it rains hard or I go to a carwash..

Maybe the people at Ford can afFORD to buy a $40000 vehicle after a couple years but not me. Repair shops are going to want to repaint the hood for a couple hudred dollars and they cannot believe Ford has gotten away with this one! They see several year come through repair shops and i talked to 3 repair shops and they all said it was a manufacturers defect.

At about 37000 miles Dealer Fixed the corrosion [ ZITS} and it look great. Kept trying to sell me a hood stone deflector to cover that hood front lip.

Then at about 49,000 miles about one year later, the ZITS reappeared in nearly the same locations and also to the left and right sides of the prior repair.

Still under the 50K warranty for rest, Dealer would not re-repair the ZITS and said that The rust needs to show in order to get the entire hood replaced. I asked why not replaced the first time - he said that it was Fords policy to repair it the first time.

Expedition XLT 4.6L

The paint is not only bubbling on the roof of the car, but also along the rear window. This should definitely not be happening to a car that's only 4 years old.

There is a TSB for the corrosion problem on 2002-2004... requires hood to be replaced or striped sanded and painted..... neither is cheap. I work at a body shop and have seen 3 (including mine) in the last week.
