My 2006 Expedition started to misfire and smell of gasoline. I could not drive it and had it towed to my mechanic. He replaced 2 stuck opened fuel injectors. The car is knocking really bad and my mechanic says it's sounds like a bent rod. But without removing the engine he can not tell. My 5 year 75K mile warranty expired 3 months ago. I understand there is a extended warranty on the 2005 fuel injectors but not on the 2006..This is a very costly repair.

Expedition 5.4L Triton

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

i own a 06 expedition with the famous 5.4 triton. It was towed to dealer after engine light and smell of gas was detected. Engine also ran rough. Dealer stated it was #6 fuel injector stuck open. This caused the catalytic converters to clog. After replacing the converters the engine still ran rough. I ran vehicle for a short period of time hoping it was just the cylinder getting washed down from all the fuel. I brought it back to dealer and they now tell me I need a new engine because the cylinder hydro-locked and compressed the rod 1/2'. I contacted Ford numerous times hoping they would help but no help was given. Ford has issued a bulletin 07M08 covering the 2005's with this problem. When I asked for assistance under that program I was told it only covers 2005 expeditions made at the Michigan plant. I told them that what the bulletin states could happen, did happen to me. I also told them that my vehicle was made at the Michigan plant on June 17, 2005. they just won't look past the fact that its a 2006. Has anyone else had this problem? I have owned a Ford or driven one since I got my license. This is not cool Ford.
