About a year ago I noticed some paint bubbling at the very front edge of my hood. I thought how can this be as there were no rock dings or any other kind of damage to the hood and as time has gone on there is another area next to it that is bubbling also. When you open up the hood you can see quite a bit of the paint just peeling away from the underside of the hood almost like an onion skin peeling from an onion. I just couldn't believe that there could be this much corrosion on an aluminum body panel until I searched online about it and found out that Ford apparently knew that there was iron contamination in both the hood and rear hatch body panels and didn't or won't do anything about it and just kept selling these vehicles. My wife's 2008 Expedition also has the exact same problem so this didn't end with the 2007 model as most may think. I'm not sure what if anything can be done with Ford as they seem to not want to accept responsibility for this defect but I can honestly say that this most likely be my last Ford and I sure wish that I had known about it beforehand.

This car has been washed waxed maintained the best that is possible and to have the paint coming apart will make me not buy another Ford. I have been a Ford owner since 1970 so that is a major statement.

We bought this car to keep for a long time. It's suppose to be our family hauler. We loved the style and expected it to last a long time. However, recently our car was in a wreck. At the body shop we decided to get some extra work done while it was being fixed.

Come to find out the bubbling spots on the hood are due to Ford using an aluminum hood interacting with the iron nuts and bolts. This causes the iron to mix with the aluminum and causes an oxidation of the hood under the paint leading to the bubbling effect of the paint. I found out there is no fix to this, the corrosion will continue. The only fix is to replace the hood at about $1400 dollars!.

I am very disappointed by the way Ford has handled this situation. According to a ford rep at the dealership he reports that Ford is fully aware of the problem and yet still refuses to allow them to fix any cars with this problem. When I first reported this problem it was a small area on the tailgate that was affected, now the peeling area has tripled in size and the hood is also affected. Very disappointing and it looks terrible!
