We have a 2010 Ford Expedition EL 5.4L 3-valve engine exhibiting a ticking sound as well as a lack of acceleration. Vehicle maintenance has been performed as per Ford instruction. There are 76,000 miles on this engine. We brought the vehicle to a Ford service center where Ford service advisor performed EEC test and found no codes present within PCM. A base engine inspection was conducted and found VCT failure with engine stuck at base timing and will not advance under acceleration caused by lack of oil pressure to VCT's due galley restriction and excess bearing. According to Ford service provider, this problem could not have been prevented, foreseen or anticipated; he has opened a case number with Ford. The engine needs replacement at the cost of $8,500.00.

Apparently, and as stated by service provider this problem is born of the defect in this engine and that this defect is well known to Ford. We believe Ford should pay for this replacement. A well-maintained car with so few miles and little wear and tear should not have this issue.

This reflects poorly on the brand Ford. We will not shrink up and go away. We paid $63,000 for this SUV and finally had it paid off in January 2017.

We will petition for replacement of the engine with all costs to be paid by Ford. The general consumer needs to be aware of this common defect.

Thank you, Jeana Enochson
