My Expedition is only 4 years old. I bought it from a dealer in Maryland when they had it priced well after it had sat in their lot for over a year. In February I noticed the paint was bubbling on the hood. I brought it to the attention of Maguires Ford. The body shop manager looked at it and said that it would cost $900.00 to repair. I subsequently contacted Ford Customer Service. They offered only $300.00 to assist in repairs. Just recently I noticed that the tailgate has similar bubbling. I again contacted Ford and of course they did nothing. This will be my last Ford.

Update from Aug 11, 2017: Just recently I had the corrosion on the tailgate and hood repaired for $700.00. The repairs were done by a local body shop. Ford Motor Company offered me $300.00 towards the repair if it were done at a Ford dealer. The local Ford dealer estimated $2000.00 to repair the corrosion. It is needless to say that I will never own another Ford product.

Ford Warranties corrosion for five years if there is "perforation of the metal" but aluminum does not perforate in the common understanding of the word therefore they deny coverage for paint that is caused by contamination of the metal before they even paint the part in the factory. Also if there is not the right fasteners used in the mounting of the tailgate of the the hood and iron based metals touch the aluminum then there is a between the metals that causes the paint to de-laminate from the aluminum.

This is a well known problem by the dealers who off the record say that this is a known problem by FORD and they choose not to recognize the problem.

I RETURNED MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THEIR PAINT BUBBLING AROUND THE REAR LICENSE PLATE AND BOTTOM OF REAR LIFT GATE. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME ITS 6000 KLMS PAST THE WARRANTY. YOUR KIDDING , ITS YOUR FAULT AS THE ALUMINUM REAR DECK WAS NOT PREPAIRED PROPERLY. iT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED AS ITS FORDS PAINTING PROCESS AT FAULT. THEY REFUSE TO HELP, SO I NOW WILL INSURE BOTH MY DAUGHTERS AND MY FAMILY NEVER BUY FORD AS QUALITY IS NOT JOB ONE. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER OR QUALITY

Expedition XLS 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

I bought my Expedition used but is was in perfect shape. Recently, the rear tailgate has started corroding around the rear lift handle. It is getting progressively worse and will eventually need to be repainted.

Other than this, the I keep the vehicle in perfect condition and had planned to own it forever. I bought it to be my retirement vehicle to carry friends on road trips and pull my boat and camper. I still plan to keep it forever, but had hoped it would look as perfect as it is maintained.
