1996 Ford F-150 truck burst into flames while it was turned off and was sitting for 5 days. Fire inspector determined the origin of fire was at the master solenoid of the brake system. The cruise control, which had stopped working one week prior to the event, rests on the master brake solenoid.. the cruise control has been recalled on this vehicle. The owner had not received a recall from the Ford company. The truck is a total loss with both engine and cab completely engulfed in flames. The house that was approx. Five feet away was damaged.

Cruise control refuses to disengage when brakes applied. Issue reported to Ford dlr. In 2002 and dlr. Refused to repair as not under warranty recall and unit out of warranty. I do not try to use cruise control as vehicle accelerates with control on and will not disengage. This is a safety issue that Ford needs to correct at no charge to me.

A fire occurred under the hood of our 1996 Ford F-150, destroying the whole front end and into the cab. Truck is a total loss. No one was hurt, and it was parked on my job parking lot, away from any close vehicles. I had just driven to work. I arrived to work as a security officer at 11:20P.M. and at 12:50A.M. the truck was in flames. We bought it used in March 2008 and had never heard of any recalls or any defects. It was a very clean, well kept truck. We received one recall notice in late November early December 2008(during holidays) about a speed control switch. The letter stated that the vehicle could ignite at any time. It gave no warning signs to look for and stated if we could not get it in right away to park it away from any dwellings. My husband is disabled, he couldn't just run down there, and it was the holidays as well. I looked up the recall online after the fire, and it stated the potential for a fire was small, and it gave warning signs to look for on the vehicle. Why weren't those warnings explained in the recall notice"? to our knowledge, the truck was 12 years old and ran like a new one. How could it have been over-looked all those years" this was devastating to us, it could have been much worse and killed someone. The truck was 3/4 full of fuel.

The cruise was not working in our 1996 Ford pickup. We had drove it that night and had gotten home about 10:00 P.M. and about 3:00A.M. we heard a loud bang. The garage was on fire. We reported it to Ford Motor Co. With no response from them, except we then received a recall notice.

: the contact stated the vehicle was parked at an independent repair shop for inspection of the brakes due to a previous failure of the master cylinder and brake fluid leakage, when a fire erupted from the front under hood area and spread from the vehicle to the repair shop. No injuries were sustained. Extensive damage was sustained to the vehicle and the repair shop. A police report was not taken. The fire department was alerted and extinguished the fire. The fire department inspected the vehicle and determined the fire originated from the master cylinder. The vehicle was awaiting further inspection by a manufacturer representative. There was a NHTSA recall, #05V388000, regarding the vehicle speed control. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. Updated 9/15/2006 -

Faulty cruise control switch fire on my 1996 Ford F-150 pick-up. The fire started this morning about 2 hours after I got to work today. This is the same problem that I am aware of with the 2000 F-150's but my truck is a 1996 and I have never had to replace the switch. I bought the truck in 1997 when it was about a year old. The Ford-smart web site said to contact you if any other years than 2000 had this same problem.
