The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting) and attempted to contact the dealer to secure an appointment for recall repairs. The dealer advised the contact to call back later. The contact stated that there had been numerous attempts to secure an appointment with the dealer since September 2011 but to no avail. The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 109,000 and the current mileage was 110,000. Updated 01/10/12 updated 02/03/12.
2000 Ford F-150. Consumer states wheel rims started to rust out in one year the consumer also stated the bumper rusted out in one year, and the ABS light illuminated. The brakes were inspected several times, but no problem was found. The high beams would not come on, the plastic on the outside rearview mirror fell off, the dome light in the cab wouldn't come on, and the tailgate wouldn't close, the windshield wiper washer, wipers and heating system did not work. The power steering pump leaked all the time, the gear shifter wouldn't go into park. The fuel strap failed three years ago and caused the fuel tank to fall to the ground.
2000 Ford F-150. Consumer writes in regards to recall for a faulty strap that holds the gasoline tank the consumer stated he received a recall notice regarding faulty fuel straps that held the gas tank in place. The consumer stated he was well aware of the problem as the tank actually fell off his vehicle about a year ago, in which he promptly bought the straps and re-attached the tank to the vehicle. The consumer stated Ford was not accepting the fact that the tank has been leaking since the incident and refused to replace the tank with the straps. The assertion is the tank is leaking due to corrosion.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F150. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 11V385000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs when she was informed that the canister bracket which held the fuel tank needed to replaced as well as the floor boards and the rocket panel. The dealer informed the contact that they would not cover the cost since it was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, did not offer any assistance. No repairs were performed. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000. Updated 12/16/11
200 Ford F]-150. Consumer states difficulty with getting recall repairs done in a reasonable time. The consumer stated the recall letter stated it would 1/2 day. The dealership stated it would take much longer, due to the overwhelming number of inspections that needed to be done on other trucks. Also, the consumer was informed the parts were not available. 2000 Ford F-150. Consumer states the metal gas straps that attach the gas tank to the truck were rusted and the gas tank was leaking as a result the dealer stated the leak was a direct result from the rusted metal straps. Ford stated they would not pay for a new tank, unless the tank fell out of the truck and caught fire.
Rear fuel tank strap broke, and very corroded. Fuel tank only six inches from ground! used a tie down strap rated at 300 pounds to fasten fuel tank to frame.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the fuel tank fell off of the vehicle and fuel spilled on the ground. The manufacturer was notified, but did not offer any assistance. The dealer was notified and diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new tank assembly. The failure was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileage was 170,000. My wife went to church on 06/11/2011, when she entered the church the fuel tank on our 2000 F-150 Ford fell to the ground with a full tank of fuel. There were many people there that saw what happened need help. Updated 09/14/11 the straps were rusted in the center on the bottom of the fuel tank, underneath the rubber or plastic covers. Both straps broke into, dropping the fuel tank to the ground. The consumer had a full tank of gas, but no fuel spilled. The new straps were $30 and the labor was $45. The straps were severely rusted at the bottom of the tank. The new straps were much thicker metal. Updated 09/21/11
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph the fuel tank detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that one of the straps which held the fuel tank in place fractured. The contact also stated the fuel tank ruptured and was leaking fuel while it was parked at the repair shop. The fire department was notified to clean up the spill. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileages were 108,000. Updated 09/14/11 the front strap broke in the middle and fell to the pavement. Gas tank fell from truck while driving appx. 35 mph. Fuel spilled onto the road and when flames were seen in rear view mirror my son jump out and a young man on the sidewalk ran out onto the road and stomped the fire out before it could trail up to the truck itself. The tank straps rusted completed through. No longer supporting the tank. Police and fire truck arrived but no report was written to my knowledge by the wooster city Ohio responding units. The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. While traveling 55 mph, the contact noticed a dragging noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. After examining the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front end of the fuel tank was dragging onto the pavement. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The current and failure mileage was 213,000. The contact owns a 2000 Ford F150. The contact was driving 60 mph when the fuel tank straps fractured and caused the fuel tank to fall to the ground, spewing gasoline onto the highway. The fire department was called to clean the fuel from the highway. The vehicle was towed to a nearby lot where the contact was awaiting for repairs. The dealer and the manufacturer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 70,000.

My husband and daughter filled the gas tank of our Ford F-150 truck, year 2000. Just minutes later while on I-265 about to merge onto I-65, the gas tank fell off and dragged the highway. A policeman stopped to help and he called the fire department. They came and put a fire retardant on the gas spill. Email from the office of congressman dingell re constituent who believes Ford Motor Co. Maybe in violation of the tread act. The consumer stated the design flaw dates back to the late 1990's. the consumer believed that the Ford F series Super Duty pick-up trucks need to be investigated for a defect that involves the side pole which could cause injuries/deaths during a side impact crash. The consumer claimed that the relationship of the frame rail spacing and occupant seating placed the occupant in undue danger in side impact crashes. Especially when the side impact involves the vehicle striking a pole. Updated 03/1/10 updated 03/15/10 the consumer stated the fuel leak was a result of a tank strap that rusted.
