This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after parking on an incline with the engine running, the contact exited the vehicle and moments later the vehicle reversed and crossed a busy road before driving into ditch. The contact stated that during the failure the vehicle nearly collided with a second vehicle while crossing the road. Prior to the failure, the vehicle experienced electrical failures causing the check engine, ABS, Hill Descent and Traction Control warning lights to intermittently flash on and off. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 159,283.
Not one check engine light has ever come on. Bought this truck new off the lot, now to almost 60,000 mi. Every single component on this truck, immediately failed. Bucking/ jerking/ chugging on acceleration and maintaining speed while inclining. Incorrect gear selection 90% of the time. Going 5 mph with no foot on the gas, it up shifts and takes off down my driveway. Sudden down shifts causing violent decreases in speed. When braking the truck may rail on the brakes and "assist" you to stop or it may decrease reading of the pressure of your braking. Tire pressure sensors don't read accurately. Digital and analog speed read differently. The truck nudges itself side to side on the road. Truck will change the steering tension going around corners, so the driver must react to stay on track. Not going around corners the steering tension will change. Almost 2 in of play in the steering at times while sometimes one side is more responsive than the other. If not wearing a seat belt and the alarm goes off while the blinker is on, the blinker will slow down until the alarm stops then pick back up again. The RPM gauge doesn't respond at all or accurately. It will stay at 1,500- going up hill, accelerating, braking. The RPM's read inversely while down shifting. For 2.5 years SYNC update wouldn't install, a month after last attempt, it connected to my WIFI and updated itself. For 6 months, I dropped calls every time in one spot. Then I unplugged my phone from the center USB and I never dropped calls there again, unless I chose to have my phone plugged in charging. No start, couldn't find fob. No unlock. Unlocks on own. Heated seat and steering wheel turn on without the button. Burning smell coming from the motor <5,000mi. A/C never cold and heat never hot. Both sound like they are blowing hard, but the vents could barley rock a face mask back and forth. USB plugs don't have great power. The AC outlets have never had enough to charge anything. My BIL phone treated as key fob.
The APIM failed when the vehicle had less than 25,000 miles on it. It was paid for by an extended vehicle warranty, instead of being paid by Ford for bad equipment. It is now back in the shop and they want to charge almost $400 to provide a software update to the equipment that was just replaced. I had the same issue on a 2020 Lincoln Aviator. APIM had to be replaced, my extended warranty was used to replace it, and now it needs an update to work properly. Please require dealerships to enter these issues, not vehicle owners.
1 year ago I started getting the -??Charge System Fault-?? alert on my truck, took to the shop and they advised the battery needed to be replaced. After replacing, a few weeks later it started happening again, so they did further testing and advised the alternator was bad. Replaced the alternator and 6 months later the alert started intermittently again. It has been sporadically ever since when at an idle and doesn-??t stay on long enough to have on a reader to reflect what is really wrong. I-??ve attached the error from my FordPass app that comes thru once in a while but it-??s frequent on the truck dash while it-??s running, at idle whether in park or at a stop light. It-??s not every time the truck is running, but becoming more frequent again.
While driving in the rain, my vehicle had a complete electrical failure. I could not accelerate or even turn the vehicle off. Because of this I could not move my vehicle off the highway. Fortunately I was not hit by the vehicle behind me, and was not in a turn. he Several warning lights came on. After being towed to a dealership, it was found that the factory windshield was leaking into the passenger side area where the Body Control Module (BCM) is housed. This flooded the unit and completely killed the truck. It was surprising to me that rain had the ability to completely render my truck useless. The manufacturer would not cover any repairs as they claimed windshield leaks were a maintenance issue.
1. The start/stop function will not restart at some long stop lights. I have to restart the vehicle. 2. The wiper will come on without being turned on. 3. The brake have started to grind like, the brake pads are bad. The brake will grind sometimes when coming to a stop. They have been checked and a recent service also. The brakes do this even during the day. The dealership found the brakes to be working in perfect order. 4. Transmission issues have been resolved to a point. 5. Service department great, however; the can duplicate issues with vehicle.
My back window randomly shattered when it wasn-??t being driving. I assumed a rock was flung up from the road from another vehicle, causing it to shatter, but when I took it to get it replaced, the glass technician pointed out that the defroster heater wire overheated, causing the glass to shatter. Reports online show this has happened before. My tech said it could have caught the truck on file. I tried to upload photos of the shattered window and the burnt electrical wire, but the website wouldn-??t let me.
Passenger front door lock failed and we were unable to access passenger during, what was interpreted as a medical emergency. The only way to access passenger was to go through the rear passenger door.
The computer system would set off all the alarms and shut down truck. Yes i think it can be inspected. My safety was at risk when truck would shut down traveling down the road at highway speeds and losing power brakes, power steering overall control, and this would happen when raining and wet slushy conditions on the road way. Yes No not to my knowledge. Yes all the alarms would go off and a second later vehicle would shut down. It was always during wet conditions, sometimes alarms would all go off and truck would stay running i would pull over to side of road and alarms would go away i believe after drying out?
The plastic housing for the rear tail light cracked without any accident or stress and water intrusion occurred resulting in a blown sensor module that in turn caused massive issues with how the truck ran. Electrical components would not function including safety features like airbags and windows.
Reporting this same incident type again. My truck continues to sporadically shutoff while operating the vehicle. My truck has shutoff while driving twice in the past 2 months. Under normal driving conditions I can be driving and suddenly the engine will shutoff and I lose all power and power steering. The latest episode I was turning right with traffic approaching behind with my kids in the truck as well. The error on the dash is the same every time -??Auto StartStop Manual Restart Required-??. I have to come to a complete stop and put the truck in park to be able to restart. Having to stop on a very busy road to restart is a major safety issue and I believe this truck will end up hurting myself or others. I have had the truck into ford more than once and they claim there is no problem even though I show pictures and video. I contacted ford directly again and they really don-??t seem to care very much, from what I can tell they refuse to acknowledge I have a problem with the truck. Please help me.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that rodents and squirrels had eaten the wiring on multiple occasions. The ABS, cruise control, parking, and traction control warning lights illuminated and became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring had been chewed on and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the ABS, cruise control, parking, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
Most everytime I start the vehicle, i get asked to confirm settings for the Sync System. I have attached pictures of what the screen says. Sometimes the rear camera works but other times it does not work. Sometimes the system will prompt me while I am driving making the sync navigation unable to be seen on the screen. Sometimes I have a black screen for entire drive with no functions like the backup camera or any other function. Sometimes it shows my reverse camera for my entire drive, even if I never put the truck in reverse. Also the Radio blasts whatever station it feels like which almost caused me to have an accident. I contacted Ford with no timetable for a fix. Was told that this is happening to a lot of vehicles with Sync 3.4. There's a partition on the onboard computer that's responsible for remembering settings that fills up, then you get this behavior constantly - forgetting camera and preset settings, popping up this message, not remembering the last radio station, etc. This is a very dangerous situation that Ford must have not tested for a bug in the Sync system before sending the software update out to be installed in the vehicle. Every time I drive the vehicle, it is dangerous when the sync system malfunctions.
Trailer brake controller to apply breaks to Trailer is not working and unable to stop safety. Problem has been reproduced with dealership. The trailer control module has been replaced and did not resolve the issue. Still have no trailer brakes. Errors I get is " Trailer disconnected or no trailer hooked up" does this with any trailer I hooked up. Tried with 3 different types. As of right now the dealership does not know what is going on. Everything on my trailer is working according to dealer. I even took trailer to dealership and is there now for testing. It's been a week now and still have no clue what is the problem and spending alot of money to even find the problem that no one knows how to fix.
Gps/ radio failing, under warranty Ford tried to fix, needs a new radio but doesn't know when they can get one. Also cruse control not functioning properly- Ford dealer replaced steering wheel buttons but on one occasion when pushing the reduce speed button the truck kept accelerating to 10 miles above speed limit before it disengaged. Ford garage said if they can't get it to repeat this problem, they can't fix it. Drivers seat when parked reclines on its own, again garage could not get it to repeat the problem so not fixed. Possible emergency brake recall. Truck gives no fault codes. Was told not to use cruse control but then if it doesn't repeat the problem Ford won't fix it. I and my wife no longer feel safe in the truck and am trying to get Ford to buy it back. No paperwork given at the time of repairs because they could fix nothing. Spitzer Ford in dubois is the garage I used. 3 year original truck warranty will soon expire, I believe in September or early October of 2023.
Having issues with sync 3. Radio default settings are not being saved, phone will not stay connected, sync auto update confirmbscreen appears at every vehicle start up, voice command will not work for phone calls, some times when using "call person abc" the system navigation wants to start up. Sync boot up is very slow to start up. I attempted system master rest working with Ford customer care. The sync system went screen blank and locked up. I eventually had to disconnect battery to final get a successful boot up. This seemed to clear up issues for about 1 week then all symptoms came back but worse. I brought this to dealer three times. First two times they could not reproduce issues but tried master rest of sync 3. This was only a short term fix (a couple days at best). They were very helpful but were having very difficult time to reproduce. Third time they finally got APIM to fail. Prior to replacing module dealer called me back and said they just had another customer come in with similar F150 to mine stating same issues. Dealer investigated again and found that we both had the same over the air updates pushed to our vehicles within a 2 week time frame around February to March 2023. Dealer believes Ford may have sent out corrupt update. The recommendation by dealer was to wait a month or so to see if Ford pushes out new update. They did not feel by replacing APIM would resolve if software was corrupt. It has now been about 30 days and no news of any new sync 3 updates. Issue has progressively gotten worse to the point that I have to reload my phone everytime I start my truck and hope maybe it will work with voice activated hands free feature. Radio still will not hold previous settings in memory and system auto update screen consistently pops up with every vehicle restart. Attempted to to manual software updates but it reports my sync software is up to date.
Ford issued an update for the sync 3 system (3.4) and now the radio / camera system resets on each start up. When this happens, the back up camera feed gets hung up and freezes, causing either a collision unknowingly or difficulty on backing with a trailer. The radio loses most of the settings that are usually saved. There is a whole internet discussion about this problem and it seems that the memory does not overwrite and causes the system to reset each time. Ford has not addressed this issue with an update yet.
