This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My F150 pickup has virtually no rust but 2 days ago I was underneath and saw rust spots on the engine oil pan and big bubbles under the paint so I thought I would scrape them off and rustproof but as soon as I scraped the oil poured out and when I put pressure on the rust spots (about 6 square inches)they were soft. If the oil pan would have failed at highway speeds I think it would be a serious safety issue. I am having the pan replaced Oct 11 and will keep it.
Oil pan has rusted from the inside out causing an oil leak. Replacement of pan necessary. Appealed to Ford motor, no resolve. Many parties suffer this same part fault. Appears to be faulty metallurgy perhaps. Dealers, oil change business' all agree Ford motor has large problem with this rusting, failing deliema.
Oil pan was never prepped for painting and caused rust and corrosion, consumer had noticed oil seeping from the oil pan when changing the oil, Ford stated they would split the cost with the consumer, however consumer declined stating Ford sold vehicle to him with sub standard equipment, now consumer tried to get this fixed and the district rep has withdrawn the offer and expects consumer to pay for the whole bill even though the defect was because of improper installation at time of assembly.
Vehicle was at a standstill/ idling, and suddenly exhaust sounded like marbles, and turbo quit. Also, had to get rear main seal replaced twice. Brake rotors were warped, and transmission did not shift properly. Please add any additional information.
The vehicle is not provided with exhaust manifold gaskets which causes fastener failures causing exhaust leakage directly from the cylinders. The exhaust then enters the cab of the truck.
Vehicle in for oil change due to leakage. Mechanic noticed oil pan had rusted which caused the leakage. It had rusted from the inside to outside. It had to be replaced.
