CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

I was driving downtown and next thing I know my wrench light comes on and I lose all power to my Ford Fusion. I was scared because I didn't know what was going on. I couldn't do anything until I pulled off the road and shut my car off and restarted it. This problem has happened to me multiple times within the past 3 weeks. I would have to say its happened at least 15 times in those 3 weeks. I am starting to get annoyed with this problem because I took the car to the dealership and they constantly tell me nothing is wrong with my car, yet I know there is definitely something wrong. The problem happened again on 11/26/2013 and when it did my check engine light came on with the wrench light so I took it to autozone for them to check the engine light code and the code was P2111 and the description it gave was that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open. I now have proof to take to the Ford dealership that something is wrong with the car. They better fix this problem!

Vehicle started to have problems around 83,000 miles. My daughter would just be driving along and suddenly the car would just stop accelerating and go to idle. She would have to coast to the side of the road to get out of traffic. She was able to turn the car off and start it again and clear the problem. It would go a couple of weeks without incident until all of the sudden would happen again. On most occasions, the yellow "wrench" light would come on as well. We first assumed it was bad gas or the fuel pump, but after researching discovered a lot of complaints with the exact symptoms that pointed to a faulty throttle body. I decided to submit a complaint after last night her car once again stopped accelerating on a bridge with a police officer behind her whom proceeded to pull her over. Fortunately, the officer was understanding to the situation. It is very unsettling to have your inexperienced 17 year daughter on the highway with a vehicle that operates in this capacity. Ford has been manufacturing cars for how many years and this is still the best they can do? to be driving down the highway at 60 mph and your car just transfer to idle speed. Ridiculous!

I was driving on the freeway when suddenly the vehicle lost speed completely and the wrench light turned on. I was fortunate enough to be driving fast enough and in the right lane and so was able to exit the freeway but the vehicle was extremely slow, not even 1mph. It did begin to shake while slowing down. This is an extremely dangerous malfunction. Had I been in the left lane it would have been impossible to remove myself off the freeway safely. This is an issue that must be addressed.

Driving on freeway the car went limp and lost speed without responding to gas pedal. The wrench light came on at the time it happened. This happened twice, first time yesterday on the freeway, second time today while on freeway going to work. Once I was able to pull over and stop the engine, it car started up again and ran.

My wife was driving 65 mph on a very busy los angeles area freeway around 4:45 in the afternoon when her vehicle came to a grinding halt. The car went from 65 mph to a complete stop in about 30 yards! she said all she heard was a loud grinding sound and the screeching of the tires. Luckily, the six vehicles behind her were able to stop, avoiding a chain reaction accident. The car has been at the dealership since November 4, 2013 when the incident happened. When I spoke to the technician, he mentioned that the transmission "disintegrated" internally and the only two options we had were to rebuild the transmission part by part, or order a whole new transmission. The vehicle is not even three years old! this was not the first time this happened. On October 2, 2013, she was about to enter the same busy freeway and the vehicle came to a stand-still at the intersection. None of the gears worked. After turning the vehicle on-and-off a few times and shifting the gear stick back-and-forth, the vehicle once again was able to move. Can you please look into this issue as I am greatly concerned for the safety of my family now that this incident put my wife's life in danger" god forbid this happen again in front of a fully loaded semi or other high profile vehicle that would not be able to stop in time. Do you recall the Ford Explorer rollover mishaps"

I was driving on the highway at about 65mph, I began to exit and came down to 40. Once I started to slow down I felt the car tug, it was odd because it had never done that before but I finished exiting and tried to pick up speed again but couldn't. the RPM went down, wrench signal came out on dash, I pushed on the gas and nothing, it did not have anymore power. Luckily there were many businesses to my right to where I was able to park safely, if I was still on the highway while this happened I could have easily been rear ended or worse because the car slowed on its own and I was unable to control the gas. As I pulled over the car began to shake, I turned it off quickly and called for help. A relative came to my aid to check it out but we couldn't find anything visible, we cautiously turned the vehicle back on and the wrench signal turned off, no more shaking, it was odd that it just completely lost power a few minutes prior and now it was back to normal. We drove it around the parking lot to test it, didn't want to leave it behind due to the area and possibility of theft, also could not afford a wrecker to pick it up. I ended up heading back home with my relative behind me. It was very uncomfortable, I'm so glad it was myself and not my wife and kids as this is her vehicle. I know they are numerous knows issues on the throttle body with this vehicle. It is sad that it has not been recalled yet, please take a stand and do not wait until somebody is seriously injured or worse.

Driving at 45 mph, when car lost power and yellow wrench warning light came on. Coasted into parking lot with accelerator not responding. Turned car off, restarted it and ok. Took to Ford dealer and was charged over $500 to replace the throttle box. Told not in warranty but saw many complaints online for this part in Fusion and escapes.

We were going down a major roadway at about 45 mph when the car just decelerated to about 1 mph. It took us awhile to get over 2 lanes of heavy traffic to the side of road where we stopped the car. The wrench light came on. With it still running we popped open hood and car appeared to be running just fine. We could not get the RPM's to go up at all. We turned off car completely, and the wrench light went off and car drove normal. 2 hrs later the car did the exact same thing and we pulled over and started it up again and got home. We believe it has to do with the electronic throttle body, bc other complaints are exactly as ours with this year, make, and model of car.

I was on my way to work yesterday morning (appx 7:30am so it was dark out) and I was slowing down with traffic (took pressure off the gas pedal) while crossing a bridge and when I went to accelerate again the car stopped moving and the wrench light lit up on the dashboard. My car was still running, but I had the gas pedal to the floor and the car would not move. When I realized I wasn't moving I hit the hazard button and braced myself for impact as cars were swerving around both sides of me. I put the car in park, shut it off, and tried to re-start it. It did not start right away, but when it did I revved the engine, put the car in gear and pulled off the road. I restarted the car again and proceeded to work. I learned that this is a common issue for this particular vehicle, yet it is not a recall issue at this point in time. Based on my experience yesterday, it seems negligent that this particular issue has not yet warranted an action for a recall. I was fortunate that I reacted quickly and turned on the hazards and was not struck by another vehicle, especially being on a bridge over a body of water.

I was driving down the street when my idle and RPM went down and I kept pressing on the gas pedal but the car would not accelerate (warning wrench symbol appeared). I was barely able to pull out of traffic and I nearly got hit in the rear by a tractor trailer. I turned off the car and got out my manual which said something about the throttle body. I turned on the car and everything was fine so I took the back road home (nitetime) and went about 10 miles and parked in front of my home. Went out in the morning (sundayoctober 20) and was going to drive it to the dealer to leave overnite, got a mile from my home and the same thing happened, called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealer.

My car shut off while at a red light when trying to give it gas. Restarted after a few tries. Had the battery and alternator checked and both were fine. It continued to give issues and finally would shut off while going between 1-10 mph. Took it to Ford to have a test ran on it, and they showed it was a faulty throttle body and would need to be repaired. We purchased the part and paid for a repair for this even though 725,000 other vehicles in the same make have been having these issues. It is quite frustrating.

This issue is a big safety concern!! I have seen many statements online about the throttle body issue and their should be a recall!! I personally have had to have my car towed twice within a 2 week period because of this issue. Every time my car broke down it was the same thing. I was going along fine and then the car all of a sudden dies, chugs, I drift to the side of the road so I don't get hit and then the engine light comes on with the wrench tool! how scary and unsafe! I am just so glad I wasn't in an intersection or hit by another car because my Ford Fusion decided to die out of no where! I have had to go through two tows, days of waiting for my car to get fixed and my warranty deciding they aren't going to cover my cost!! unbelievable!!! Ford needs to take some action now! many people from what I have seen are going through the same thing and something needs to change. This issue shouldn't be on the customers shoulder and Ford needs to take responsibility before someone is seriously injured from an issue their cars are making. Please do something about this!

Traveling at a steady speed and the engine cut out. Not completely but had no acceleration control. Have read on-line that this is called "limp" mode. Was able to pull safely off the road and then restarted the car after which the vehicle operated ok. This has happened 3 times in the last week. Took car to dealer who replaced the throttle body at no charge since the vehicle was still under warranty. Although I was lucky enough to avoid an accident or injury, I could see this being a serious safety issue for a driver on the expressway or pulling in to heavy traffic.

While driving at all times, the vehicle would start to surge and buck then loose power. It never completely died but when I pulled over it ran terrible and would not accelerate. I turned it off for a few seconds and restarted it. It would run for a while, good, then the problem would reoccur. The engine light came on, I had the code checked. The result was a faulty throttle body or sort in the throttle body module.

My wife had my 6 month old sign in the backseat when she was pulling out from a stop sign into a 4way when the car lurched and the accelerator quit responding in the middle of the street a truck nearly T boned her on the driver side where our son was in his car seat upon diagnostics the electronic throttle body was stuck open. I've found similar issues with similar vehicles although the dealership informed me my vehicle is not currently on a recall list.

This is the 3rd report that I am filing in regard to my 2011 Ford Fusion. The throttle body assembly needs to be recalled. Whether going highway speeds or in traffic less than 30mph, the vehicle will intermittently lose power to the throttle. The wrench and emissions lights both go on, the vehicle shakes violently and I lose all ability to accelerate. The only remedy is to restart the vehicle, which I often need to do in the middle of the road as I do not have the ability to get to a breakdown lane or other safe stopping point. This has happened on the highway, causing me to have to cross 4 lanes of highway traffic with no ability to accelerate. It has also occurred in the middle of intersections with turning traffic as well as at traffic lights, causing other drivers to unsafely pass me on the right. Please note that when I do get into an accident, I will be finding both Ford Motor Company and the national highway transportation safety administration responsible and liable for all injuries and damages due to the number of complaints and the administration's decision not enforce a recall. Ford refuses to repair the issue unless they can replicate the problem; however, when I restart the vehicle the error is cleared. I have taken numerous videos of the problem and Ford still refuses to replace the defective part. It is simply a matter of time before somebody gets killed.
