CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Fusion doesn’t have the same track record of power steering failure as the previous 3 model years. Of course, those owners said their steering failed at 60k–100k miles. So this appears to be a classic "wait and see" scenario.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of interior accessory problems to complain about. By themselves, each is a barely a blip on the radar. But combined, they give you that feeling of what the hell have I gotten myself into?

I have had the transmission rebuilt three times so far and the last time they wouldn't touch it because it never recorded an error code. So it still doesn't want to shift out of second until the rpms are around 4 to 4500 then, wham, it shifts. It is so unpredictable as to when it shifts. Worst car I have ever bought and I was loyal Ford customer - but not anymore.

I had bought my car brand new, my first ever new car I was so happy. Then my car was making a weird noise after having it for about a year. So when I went in for my oil changes and recalls on the car, I asked them about it. They told me they couldn't find anything. This went on for a couple years.

Then one day I am driving home from a short vacation and my car starts to act up and the transmission symbol came on the dash. So I have take my car into the dealership that I purchased it from and they told me I needed a new transmission d that's going to cost me almost $6,000. Are you kidding me? I have had complaints on hearing a noise and they tell me it's nothing and now this. Well my car was just over my warranty mileage so guess what the weren't gonna help me. I still owed $16,000 on the car and now they want me to pay $6,000 for a problem I have heard for some time.

I tried to contact Ford and they wouldn't help me either all the said was they would help me with the maintenance leaving me will over $4,000 still to pay. In the result of this my car was no longer driveable and it caused me to go upside down and I lost my car to the bank. I was unable to pay to fix it because no one wanted to help me causing me to have a car that I owe $16,000 on and was no longer on the road.

My credit was awesome I purchased this car on my own with no help and now in the result of this my credit is shot and I have been without a vehicle for 2 years. And now I find out that they finally want to do something about the transmissions after I have went through all this and lost my vehicle ruined my credit and been without a car because I cant get financed.

Had the car fire about 2 years and it was 3 years old, I started notice problem shifting coming back from a long drive. The next day the car would not move into reverse or drive. Took it in and they said that the gears were stripped and replacing the parts was going tho be about the same cost just with a warranty of 1 year instead of 3. The gears were messed up due to a computer problem causing it to not shift properly, or so I was told. Roughly 4 grand later, the car was fixed, but nothing was cover, all out of pocket.

The thing is in Nov 2014 two months after I bought this car, the band went on the transmission and because of the detailed repair it was over $3200 thank God covered. I had only known because the car had a surge and slipping when going from park to first gear. Well two years later the same surge and slipping, only it doesn't trigger a code. Well I'm just under the 100000 extended power train warranty at 99912 so I open a work order.

Car is in now 3 days and they are having to replace the wheels in the valve assembly. I mean two transmission jobs in 2 1/2 years that are both over $3M so definitely won't be buying another Ford Fusion product. I do appreciate the dealer relationships I am having however. The Ford Fusion does not get great mileages 10.8L /100km and I do mostly highway driving so that is really negative. Last thing is the paint seems to be washing off the rear panels.

I wish I had not bought the car.

THE WORST TRANSMISSION I HAVE EVER DRIVEN ON A VEHICLE!!! Hard jerks on shifts, Hard downshifts at random at highway speeds, Hard lunges, Rough Idle, TERRIBLE Shifts from 2nd to 3rd. Have complained over a dozen times about the issue and have had car in dealship for weeks. They claim to never feel or replicate the issues. Hard to believe. I was put in a focus rental leaving the lot trans jerked into gear.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN OCTOBER 2016, NOTICE A DRAG WHEN I ACCELERATE, THOUGHT I JUST NEED TO GET USE TO THE CAR. BUT EVERY TIME I AM GETTING THE EXPRESS WAY IT STAY IN THAT FIRST GEAR, IT EVENTUALLY DRAG INTO THE NEXT GEAR. NOW IT HAS A KICK GOING ON NOW, WHERE IM DRIVING AND JUST DO THIS JERK KINDA KICK. i HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN ABOUT FOUR TIMES THEY SAY THEY CANT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I PICK THE CAR UP 1/17/2017 I AM NOT EVEN A BLOCK AWAY FROM THE SHOP! AND IT DOES IT AS I AM GETTING ON 75 NORTH! IT IS SO FRUSTRATING! I AM NOT DRIVING ALL THESE MILES TO THIS SHOP FOR THE FUN OF IT. THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THIS CAR.

It rendered my car inoperable. Had to have it towed to the mechanic shop which took a week to get to. Worth it considering the dealer would have charged triple that I'm certain. Fortunately, I was able to borrow a vehicle from a family member. Or, I would've been out the cost of a rental also.

My 2013 Ford Fusion started to surge. Took it to local Ford Dealer - because there was no check engine light, they couldn't diagnosis it. Took to another mechanic after he started to surge again, unable to diagnosis it again because of no check engine light. Finally about a month later, the check engine light came on, they replaced a temperature sensor valve and reprogrammed the car.

During acceleration, the transmission is holding 2nd gear way longer than it's supposed to, then kicking down into third. Bear in mind that this car cost almost as much as a new Mercedes Benz.

My local Ford dealer, most likely in an effort to get me to shut my mouth, is telling me that this is "normal operation" of the transmission. I'm calling BS.

Once again, the sticker price on a brand new Fusion Titanium is almost $40k. My mother's Cobalt's transmission is smooth as butter no matter what the temperature or how fast you're going.

Initially the transmission would downshift way too far when trying to maintain speed on a grade. RPMs would shoot up to 4500 or higher just going 35MPH up a hill. This didn't seem right to me but, not being used to driving a 4-cylinder, I thought it might be "normal." I'd just let my foot off the gas and slow down until I could continue at a more reasonable RPM even if it meant going slower than the speed limit and pulling over to let other traffic pass (not wanting to drive a brand new engine too hard).

This went on for a couple of months and I complained about it when I brought the car in for its first oil change. The mechanic reported that the transmission fluid was a quart low (really? - the car is brand new, for crying out loud!) so he topped off the fluid. That seemed to solve the premature and too extreme downshifting for a week or two. Then, one evening on the way home from work as I was starting to gently accelerate from 35MPH (in no hurry, as there was nobody else in site on the roadway) the transmission popped into neutral and the engine revs went way up. I took my foot off the gas immediately and the transmission slammed back into gear. This process repeated itself several times in the next few hundred yards on relatively flat highway. I eventually got the thing to stay in gear at 40MPH and stayed at that speed until my exit (less than 2 miles). The rest of the trip home is downhill at 35MPH and was uneventful. The next day I noticed the transmission didn't want to up-shift until engine RPMs were at least 3500 and sometimes as high as 4500, regardless of how gently I accelerated. I could not force an up-shift by taking my foot off the gas either but, if I put the transmission in manual mode I could up-shift it with the button on the side of the shifter just fine. This obviously wasn't right so I brought the car back to the dealer. They "could not reproduce the problem." The car still had the problem when I picked it up so I brought it back to the dealer again. Same story - they found no problems. It seemed better over the Summer but when the weather got cold it started freaking out again. Still, the dealer can't find anything wrong with it. It's really annoying for a new car to be behaving this way and it's worrisome as well. I'm afraid to drive the car to any remote or even semi-remote location because I fear that this behavior may be indicative of an impending total failure and I don't want to get myself stranded. This is the first time in my life I've purchased a brand new car and reliability and a new car warranty were the two reasons I decided to buy new rather than used, as I've always done in the past. Although I really like this car in most respects, this transmission situation and the dealer's inability to do anything about it really sucks! The car is 13 months old now and has 7000 miles on it and I'm having to manually up-shift about 1/3 of the time on average (some days are better and some days are worse). It's pretty disappointing.

car down shifts way too early without me touching anything

Ok this site asks for date and mileage so this happens now a few times. Once in Spt mode once in regular drive as i am going down a hill lets say to exit off a parkway all of a sudden the car starts down shifting very early and screaming the engine in lower gears.

What also happens is that when you pull the stick back down to sport mode, its automatically downshifting without hitting the button.

Really hate this.
